Boston Lead Singer Brad Delp Dies at 55

Fri Mar 09, 6:58 PM ET

Brad Delp, the lead singer for Boston, a huge rock sensation in the 1970s, was found dead Friday in his home, police said. He was 55.

Atkinson police responded to a call for help at 1:20 p.m. and found Delp dead. Police Lt. William Baldwin said in a statement the death was "untimely" and that there was no indication of foul play.

Delp apparently was alone at the time of his death, Baldwin said.

The cause of his death remained under investigation by the Atkinson police and the New Hampshire Medical Examiner's office. Police said an incident report would not be available until Monday.

Delp fronted the rock band, who rose to fame in the late 1970s and had several hits, including "More than A Feeling." The group sold millions of records

may he RIP

I was in a bar last night singing along to a Boston song, and then got home to discover that Brad was dead. Pretty shocking.

I'm not a huge fan of pop music. But I was about 10 or 12 when Boston first hit it big. Their melodies and sensibilities were pop, but their arrangements and production were unlike anything I had ever heard. (Tom Scholz was sort of the George Lucas of Pop music; a tech geek as much, or more than an artist) But jeeesus....Brad's voice.

Rest in peace, Brad.

Brad was, in my opinion, the best rock vocalist of his time. From what I hear he was a super nice guy as well.

Hardly a week goes by where I don't hear about someone famous who has died. It's always sad but honestly I seldom give it second thought. But this one really hit me. He will be missed.

Boston, as a teenager in the 70's, they were one of the best. Got Hitch A Ride blaring out of my iTunes right now!

Now if Mick Jagger would just freakin' fall of the face of the planet, I could use some good news...

"Gonna hitch a ride
Head for the other side
Leave it all behind
Never change my mind
Gonna sail away
Sun lights another day
Freedom on my mind
Carry me away for the last time..."

Man, that's depressing. I was just checking up on Boston a few weeks ago to see what everyone was doing. I was in grade school when they hit it big, but I can't count how many times I've played "Peace of Mind" while on my way to work.

I remember being told that I just missed them in a restaurant. Used to hang out at TGI Fridays in Tysons Corner, VA back in the late 80s. One night we stopped in mid-week and a freinds sister who was a waitress told us that we just missed the entire band. They were in town and just had dinner. She said they were all very polite, quiet, nobody seemed to know who they were. Nobody bothered them. For as much time as I spent there, would have been neet to be there.

Google "Brad Delp Suicide"...

Brad Delp, lead singer of the 70's rock band Boston, was found dead in his home on March 9th, and the death was originally listed as "due to natural causes".
The Delp family announced yesterday that the death was a suicide.
Mr. Delp apparently committed suiced by means of carbon-monoxide poisoning.
He allegedly sealed himself in his master bathroom (using wet towels around the bottom of the door) with two charcoal grills, using the gas from both to exterminate himself.
And in what is, according to friends and family, typical of Mr. Delp's nice-guy persona, he left notes on the doorways throughout the house warning others of the carbon-monoxide gas present.

Had to be depression.
What a loss!.

The family of Brad Delp, lead singer of Boston, has confirmed his death was a suicide. The state medical examiner has released toxicology reports saying that Delp died as a result of carbon monoxide poisoning.
A police report also states that he locked himself in a bathroom with two charcoal grills sometime between late Thursday night and Friday afternoon when he was found by his fiancee, Pam Sullivan. If that isn’t enough indication, he also left two notes taped to a door, along with letters to family and Sullivan.
It sounds like family and friends were aware that he was struggling with issues. This is the statement they gave to the press:
“He was a man who gave all he had to give to everyone around him, whether family, friends, fans or strangers. He gave as long as he could, as best he could, and he was very tired. We take comfort in knowing that he is now, at last, at peace.”

A private funeral will be held with a public memorial to be held at a later time. RIP Brad!

As someone with a degree in psychology, depression is a physical, medical condition. The really sad part is, he had no control over what the chemicals in his body were doing. He was a victim of the sorry ass state of psychology awareness in America.

We think everything is "will power." Yeah, next time you break your arm, "will power" it to fix itself. Not a chance!

You don't "will power" yourself out of depression. It's medical, and it's sad, and it's very, very disappointing we don't have more cures for it than, "Hey dude, pull your self up!" Which is pretty ef'ing stupid to think it works like that....

Feel for him, wish him healing in the after life, he's home...

Donadagohvi...

That's sad. When I went to school in Boston he led a Beatles tribute band called Beatlejuice that played in Somerville all the time. Guy had a great voice.

That really sucks. He had one of the best voices in rock. Right up there with Freddie Mercury.

Hitch a Ride, Smokin, More than a Feeling, hell, the entire first album kicked ass.

RIP Brad
