Creating a gap at the start of timeline

If i don't have any space at the beginning of my timeline for titles, how can i make a gap for it without messing with the rest?...also I've connected speakers to my mac, somehow, I can't hear anything thru them.

I usually just edit>select all. When they are highlighted, drag the clips over in the timeline as much as necessary.

as for the speakers:

A) make sure they are on if they are powered (sorry, I had to mention that)
B) Go to System Preferences and click on the sound icon to check your settings
c) hit the volume button on your keyboard

Audio on speakers...

Are you using an external monitor? In fcp... View - External Frames... make sure down there Audio is set to built-in.

There will be some latency on the audio if you are also monitoring video via FW. I actually have a little mixer/tuner that I use... it's on CD when I want to listen to the mac audio and AUX when I want to listen to the audio following the FW to the deck.

CaptM

As for the first question... check out the TTTT tool.

I'm using an external monitor/tv... connected to the camera that I'm using as a deck, only to view the log and captures...

I always edit with three seconds of 'nothing' at the head of my timeline. I simply I/O on 3:00 of whatever's in my Viewer window, F9 to insert it at the head, and then select it and cut it out. Voila.

Or you can just create a slug , do an insert edit and everthing should push down the timeline. then when your ready just do a replace edit or if it is just titles you can put them right over the top of the slug

you can use the T short cut until you get 2 arrows pointing toward the end of your timeline and select everything and then you can move everthing or you can just select one clip and it apple A and its going to select everything and then move it. There is many different way to do it!!

I transfered a track from Sountrack to final cut...it is on synch all the way till the middle, from the middle on, it goes slightly out of synch....any tips?

I'm editing this as I got it a little wrong;
I'm part way through the FCP 5 pro series book so someone tell me if this is wrong. I did it myself last night and it worked well. I believe that if you have the play head at the head of the timeline and, let's say you want to give yourself 3 seconds, click in the timeline to activate it, obviously, Cmd-A to highlight everything in the timeline and simply begin to type +3. (period) and it will (as you type) open up a timeframe box headed "MOVE" in the middle of the timeline. When you hit return the sequence will move up 3 seconds.
It's a very quick and accurate way of doing it.
