DVD video to FCP as clips

Ok... Trying to grab a few seconds(or minutes) from a DVD. Meaning A DVD that has been outputed from any DVD authoring program or even a feature film DVD, into FCP....... is there a simple way to do this?
My only thought is to have a DVD player with outputs that goes to some kind of interface and from that interface via firewire to my G5 to capture in FCP. I'm not sure what type of interface I need or if this is my solution....... is there an easier way to grab a certain length of DVD video and capture in FCP?

An interface that can be used is a Canopus ADVC110. It's an anolog to digital converter via firewire. But..... as others will say there is software that can do the job by ripping it off the dvd and giving you a format you can work with. Some are free some are not. Do a search for dvd ripping on this forum and google. I haven't used these programs so i dont't know anything about them. Other people on this forum do though. good luck
