Best looking Digital Film Out So Far From Hollywood?

How many of you have seen these on 2K digital, rather than film? Superman Returns was much sharper in digital, and Apocalypto looked great in some scenes, and very videoish in others. (most had to do with a slower 1/24 shutter employed than anything else)

When I saw these in digital I could sit much closer to the screen without it feeling overly-soft.

I haven't seen an HD-originated film in the theaters since STAR WARS Episode 2... However, the best-looking HD-originated film that I've seen on DVD is CRANK. (Not a great picture by any means, but a fun ride.) I watched the DVD on a 40-inch Sony HD set, and if I didn't know otherwise I could have sworn it was HD DVD or Blu-Ray; it looked at least as good as most HD broadcasts. And it didn't look real "video-y", just an exceptionally clean image with typical film-like motion (well, except for the times when the motion wasn't typical--those who've seen the movie should know what I'm talking about).

I haven't seen all the films mentioned, but I did love how Super-man looked. I'm surprised Click was shot on digital, and same for Zodiac (although I haven't sen Zodiac).

Guess it goes to show that HD is the way of the future.

Yeah, Zodiac looked good. But then again, it was transfered to film. I wasn't watching a digital presentation.

If a movie is shot digitally and then transferred to film, do they telecine it from film for the DVD release or do they skip the telecine and work with the pre-film version? I hope that makes sense...

Apocalypto looked bad?...Not to me, but I'm a Dean Semler fan. There were one or two very fast panning shots that had an un-film like look to me but that's it. I thought the quality of the image was fantastic...But I'd give it up to Zodiac.

I talked to a couple people who went to two different theaters showing Zodiac...one had a print, the other a DigiBeta presentation. Apparently the digital version had crisper, sharper blacks or some such. But then there's also the small-town factor, where the theaters out in the podunks get the bad scratched-up blown-out prints.

I saw this strange, but interesting indie flick called Party Monster last night at my friends house and thought it was super 16mm all the way through, then i went on IMDB and saw they used Pal PD150s! Party Monster is the best looking DV film i have seen in a bit, i can usually tell what was shot on DV and what was not and as for HD, i just saw Reign Over Me and well the film sucked but the cinematography looked alot like film but they used the genessis, i hear every film sense CLICK sandler has been attached to was shot with that cam the panavision genessis! even that new kevin james film he did was with that cam! pretty cool :)

Surprised Click was digital. I normally spot the differences but that one I just thought was film. Based on that I would have to say Click is best looking since I thought it was film.

Once upona time in Mexico had several parts that stood-out as being "video".

Zodiac or Superman. And I saw zodiac projected digitally, and while you pssibly could tell it wasnt film, it wasn't a bad thing. Mostly do to no grain.

And the reason 'Once... in Mexico' has some videoy shots is because a few shots were shot using prosumer cameras and blown up. Most notably the shot where Sands shoots the cook and one of the shots with the flame thrower.

Wow, I can't remember thinking Click was digital, so I'll go with it. And come on guys, Click wasn't that bad, I automatically give it 5 stars for Kate Beckinsale anyway.

KMR, Crank looked like it was shot on my mom's holiday camcorder! Well, not quiet that bad... I did think the video look suited the movies premise though, was well done.

I think Star Wars ep1 really made huge leaps with digital cinema. Still looks awesome.

Every movie ever shot with the Genesis looks great. Zodiac and Superman Returns were amazing. My votes for the 2 best.

Deja Vu was digital? That was the first time I noted to myself about how sharp a movie looked at a theatres. I was, however, at a theatre that I hardly ever go to that is much nicer than my regular.

I guess Deja Vu gets my vote? I haven't seen most of these in theatres.
