home depot 35mm adapter wax?

hey everyone, i have almost completed building my home depot 35mm adapter, but was having trouble with the wax i am to melt on the uv lens. I bought crystalized wax, but that was just a mess, very blotchy after drying! do any of you have a type of wax you would recommend or a different way of building the focus screen? can someone explain to me the importance of having this "screen" and what exactly it does?

Just get a Nikon Focus Screen on ebay, they go for less than $10...

is there a specific size of this screen i would have to get? and are the focus screens square? what would i get to put it in?

The size is pretty much standard for 35mm film which is a bit more than you need.
The site Kyle mentioned is a very good site to get started.
