Gateway FPD248W 24" HD Monitor. 679 new. Anyone use this?

Anandtech reivew says it's not much different than the Dell, aside from offering an extra Component input, HDCP support for those of us that wanna use it as a TV, and it can do 1080p 1:1 instead of stretching!!!

I'd say that's enough for me to go out and purchase. Anyone use this yet or am i gonna have to be the first?

Went to Best Buy to check it out with me HVX. Really good quality! In 1080i and 720p output from the HVX.

Definitely as good as the Dell2407, I'd say better given the extra options. I am going to be doing some bargain hunting for it.

Hey Kholi,
If you get it, let me know how it works. I bought a Samsung 26" tv, but I wasn't crazy about the lack of underscaning. it was cutting too much and frankly, although it had dynamic color range and 3000:1 contrast, I don't feel it reproduces colors from the camera component out very well. I might return it and get this dell one or the gateway.
Sorry to be the first.

From what I saw at Best Buy, this screen (out of the box because I KNOW it wasn't callibrated) reproduces the colors quite nicely.

Low Noise, as well. It's been stated that using the DVI input also reduces noise, so I'd be willing to bet it's virtually noiseless. I've seen the Dell 2405/7 (both) with the HVX and this screen shows a bit less noise in the image.

I am still considering going back to Best Buy to pick it up. But giving myself a few days to make sure I don't need anything else, instead.

you know this post came just in time. I'm building a box for my 23" lcd (oops, did I say 26" before. sorry) samsung screen. but now maybe I'll plot a little extra and use this gateway? not sure. Maybe I'll still make the box for the samsung, and then just swap out the back plate if I switch to the gateway.

I'd honestly go with the Gateway. It can do 1080p via DVI without stretching. If you can sell one and get the other, it'll probably be worth it.

Circuit City has it for 649.99.

Thanks for that.

Seems like the issues were with the December and earlier models, not the Jan 07 models which are what Best Buy and Circuit City sells (I was told over the phone, anyway).

I'm just waiting for the right moment to go and pick one up to use for all sorts of things.

Hey guys, I didn't see this thread here, but I just purchased two of these monitors today. I discovered them the other day, did a little research and the reviews were mostly positive. I'll be setting them up down at my studio tommorow, and can't wait to try them out.

I'll write back with my opinions tommorow.

Ok, so i set up the monitors today, and let me just say, WOW. They look great. Easy to set up, I callibrated them and loaded up final cut. I think they look alot better than the apple cinema displays, especially due to the higher contrast rate (these guys are 1000:1) I loaded up some footage in 720p in Digital Cinema Desktop, and was noticing things I'd never scene before on the monitor.

Overall, I think these guys are a great deal, and I'm very happy with them so far. The large screen size at this price point, I don't think you can go wrong. Everything just looks so crisp on them, it's great.

Awesome.

That's what I thought, as well. Higher contrast ratio AND brightness than the Cinema HD screens. Amazing.

I'm definitely investing, just trying to map out an investment order.
