Best looking Digital Film Out So Far From Hollywood?

I honestly think that Superman looked amazing, as well as ZODIAC. What do you guys think has won "BEST DIGITAL CINEMATOGRAPHY" so far?

300 is so stylized that it is hard to compare it to a conventional film for the purpose of digital versus celluloid. Like Sin City or Tomorrow, 300 can't really be a benchmark for DC.

More appropriate, sadly, is a film like Click. It's a common movie with common technical requirements that happen to be captured via digital means. Apocalypto and Scary Movie and Miami Vice would be my personal votes for best DC releases.

Click, hands down, looks the most like film. Sadly, it's Click so... well that is self explanatory.

Apocalypto, only you could really tell that was digital. With Click, sadly, you couldn't tell it was digital. What a waste... such a good tool to such a bad movie.

Wait... what are you guys talking about?

300 was shot all on film. Are you talking about Digital Intermediate?

300 will be the best digital cinema film for quite a while.

i could find out. My old acting teacher, Andrew Shaver, had some lines in that movie.

actually, just from watching the making of, of their site, you can see the film cameras.

I didn't even know CLICK was digital. Just goes to show ya.

Was SCARY MOVIE digital as well? Had no idea.

Yep, Scary Movie 4 was also shot with Panavisions Genesis camera, as well as Flyboys, Click and most recently Apocalypto.

I disagree on the statements that Collateral and Miami Vice should win an award for best looking Digital film out so far. It definitely goes to Click, Superman Returns, or Zodiac. (In terms of actual quality of the result, not sucess of film.)

Apocalypto looked awful. Superman looked pretty good, and I'm also going to have to agree with Brandon Rice on Once Upon A Time In Mexico. He beat me to it. I can only really think of two or three shots that looked kind of digital in that movie (the one where Sands shoots the chef especially)

While I agree in saying that it didn't look like film at all, I don't agree that it looked awful. I really liked the cinematography in the movie... it had it's own look.

Once Upon a Time in Mexico and Sin City were great.

Apocalypto was horribly disappointing. I felt ripped off. Oh yeah, the last Star Wars had glaring moments of "video".

Zodiac had one moment that seemed to have some give-aways that
something had a refresh rate or an artificial shutter.. but other than that,
I was pretty impressed.

And the only reason it looked that way is because of the way it was shot, handheld and dirty.

Actually the reasons I notice that film is digital is how the highlights in the lighting are dealt with. They don't fall off nearly as smoothly as film, but alas, it's a great looking flick!

Is the prize for "most like film" or "best looking", because both of them looked fantastic. Collateral was even nominated by the ASC for best achievent in theatrical cinematography and by BAFTA for best cinemtography.
