Need Simple Mailing List Code for Website

Hello All.

I know a little HTML code but not a lot.

The thing I haven't been able to figure out is some simple Mailing list form for my web site.

I'm assuming this is super easy for someone who knows how and that you could hook me up with some code here.

What I would like is to have a link on the main page that says "join the mailing list" or something and links to a new page (no problem I can do that part).

Then in the new page or window there are two boxes, one for "Name" and one for "Email address" and then some kind of submit button.

Thanks guys,

Thanks Steve,

But no. I think you are talking abouy those kind of forum like thingies.

I tried one of those and it had a double opt in and all this B.S. I just want people to send their name and email so I can send them an email if I am in an online festival and need their support, have updates on a project, or ever release a DVD, etc.

All I want is to recieve an email from my website that says.

joeblow@hotmail.com

So I can send emails that say "hey I'm in this online festival and need your support" "I'm releasing a DVD" "Here's some news on the feature" etc.

Alternately I've seen it on people's websites where you click a link and then an email opens with "mailing list" in the Subject.

That would be OK too except you don't get a name that way unless they put it in their email. Only an email address.

maybe I am being dumb and I should just make an email address called

"mailinglist@frenchquarterfeature.com" or "newsletter@frenchquarterfeature.com"

and do like a simple email link (which I actually know how to do, lol)

But I would prefer to have a name just to be polite when I email people. Though I guess mostly I will just be emailing saying "hello everyboy". But still a name would be prefferable.

Thanks

OK, I see. The most simple thing you can do is put a link with mailto: in the href, which opens the default mail client. But I understand that's not what you are after.
For more nice looking and professional solution I think is a script that will send you the e-mail once the user fills the fields and clicks 'Submit'.
I have some scripts handy, ready to work, but there are some specs that your server must have, at least php language for start.
Anyway pm me, not to fill the thread with technical details.

Simplest approach (besides mailto: which exposes your email address to spammers) is formmail. Your ISP's manual should have instructions on use and most of them support it. I think it lets you set form elements as required or not.
