Moving to LA, maybe next week

I've worked in NoHo and have some friends in Burbank, but I've never wanted to live in the Valley. It just doesn't appeal to me... and it's freakin' hot. It's like 10-15 degrees hotter in the summer time compared to the other side of the hill.

I've lived in Hollywood before. Got tired of all the bums and hookers walking past me when I went outside, so I think I'll stay on the north side of the hill. And I'm used to it being a little warmer. I grew up in Miami FL so it doesn't even phase me.

We spent the day with our son today. Went shopping, ate at a Mexican restaurant, went bowling, fun stuff. We gave him a hug and said goodbye. We all got teary eyed. I remember when he got his own apartment in San Jose, it was odd seeing him drive away. He was only 30 minutes away from us.

Now it's our turn to leave and we'll be 6 1/2 hours away. He can't just drop in like before. Talk about an adjustment. We're a tight little family and this is the furtherest we've ever been away from each other. He's got less than 2 years of college left and is thinking of settling down in La Jolla.

Phew. We'll be close again. Seemed strange watching him drive away.

Well folks, I'm leaving for Santa Monica/Venice in the morning. We'll be there a couple of nights, trying to find a furnished place to stay until we secure an apartment. If anyone knows of any furnished rentals in or near Santa Monica, by all means, let me know.

Woo hoo!

Best of luck Charli!

(see now you will be in LA like i always thought you were......)

ullan - cool. I'm leaving at 7:30am today. Should arrive in Santa Monica this afternoon. Trying to get a furnished apartment lined up, may have something through Craigslist (thanks, buddy for that). Also found an apartment I liked, 2 bedrooms, so we'll see what the deal is once we move.

Here I come...

Sad - yes, I stayed at the Comfort Inn for one night and then found a furnished apartment for short term lease and will be here for 2-3 weeks. Nice landlord, a location scout for television and commercials, sort of his work pad when in town. I'm just a few blocks away from the Promenade, walked there twice already, and we just came back from Venice, they were filming an episode of Road Rules out there today.

Charli - SM is a great place for breakfast/lunch/dinner/movies/the beach/drives up PCH/etc

And if you ride, the canyon roads off PCH a few miles further north, are just great. But ride on weekdays; weekends are squid central.

Enjoy!

I took a sightseeing tour and went to the Getty Museum, visited: Rodeo Drive (saw the hotel in which they filmed Pretty Women), Hollywood (the freaks are just a notch higher than Santa Cruz, so it felt like home - lol), and just drove around.

Have I mentioned recently how much I LOVE SoCal?

Let's go down to the sunset grill
We can watch the working girls go by
Watch the basket people walk around and
Mumble

And stare out at the auburn sky
Theres an old man there from the old world
To him, its all the same
Calls all his customers by name

Down at the sunset grill

You see a lot more meanness in the city
Its the kind that tears you up inside
Hard to come away with anything that feels
Like dignity
Hard to get home with any pride
These days a man makes you somethin
And you never see his face
But there is no hiding place

Down at the sunset grill

Respectable little murders pay
They get more respectable every day
Dont worry girl, Im gonna stick by you
And someday soon were gonna get in that
Car and get outta here

Lets go down to the sunset grill
Watch the working girls go by
Watch the basket people walk around and
Mumble
And gaze out at the auburn sky
Maybe well leave come springtime
Meanwhile, have another beer
What would we do without these jerks
Anyway?
Besides, all our friends are here

Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill
Down at the sunset grill

I prescribe some chicken and waffles for you... screw the getty.. you need some LA culture.

hey Charli .....what you don't look me up! santa monica is the place you ought to be so you head up to beverly.......hills that is, swimming pools, moving stars.....cause nothing last forever.................?

EL TARASCO in Venice is some good Mexican eats. Not that that is hard to find there, but it is in your hood. Also I am partial to the Brite Spot on Sunset. That is a ways away, but if you are up that way and drunk late at night, it's good stuff. It's kind of hipster, but they make a mean chorizo/goat cheese omlette.

Gregg, Kimk, Mark - let's all hook up, play some beach football, eat at that Mexican place Mark talked about. I'm scouting apartments this week, but I might be free on weekend, who's game? I can catch and throw, btw, yeah, a real tomboy.

Er....I'm not actually in LA anymore, Charli. I was out there last week, visiting a bunch of friends, but now I am back in...NYC. Sigh.
