HVX Audio POPING during concert

right - i'm not saying it helps when the input signal overloads the preamp, but it does protect the a/d conversion from a too-high preamp analog OUTPUT.

i dont think it does good job at all if there is any feed back , it does protect from brick walling so maybe you right and it does work s with feedback befor the a tod but defenetly not in the preamp stage as it works in line level as well so iff dvx doesnt padd down the inputs may be working slightly better
but for mic in loud situations it completly nothing

by the way even sony started palce mic atunuation pads inside the chain ( z-1) dont really get why panasonic "forgot "that feacher

Oleg is saying it won't help. The ALC just helps keep the signal from being recorded too loud when you turn the levels up too high on the dials on the camera. It won't help if the levels are too loud in the room and you "clip your pres" that is overdrive the pre-aplification on you camera. There is not way to adjust that electroniclly. What the pros do is use an external mic and throw -10db pad on it in a loud environment to keep what happened to you from happening to them. There is no solution except an external mic.
