I have just finished my film within vegas which has been great!

But before i even render etc, can someone tell me how i make a dvd? the film footage in the project is a mixture of .avi and .mpg files as well as .wav files for the music.

I also have DVD Architect 4.0a which i have never used before so am completley new to the render/mixdown process of making a dvd!

Whats the best render for DVD? and would this file tyoe include the music also? as its all lined up and in sync..

Then can you tell me how i use DVDA and what render setting for a DVD disc

Many thanks for your time..

Just export a movie file as MainConcept MPEG-2, and from the dropdown list of templates, choose one of the DVD Architect DVD-compatible templates (based on whichever one's appropriate for your project, whether widescreen or 24p or whatever). It's a really simple one-click operation.

Ok thanks!

So rendering as a .mpeg2 in Vegas then, thsi will capture all the audio as well as the picture?

I have seen some editors saying that you need to render as MPEG2 and the do the Audio as AC3? - surely the MPEG2 render captures the audio too right?

Thing is that i have DVD Architect on the pc which i can get the DVD ready but my pc has no DVD Writer! so i would have to transfer over to MAc OSX and Toast Titanium 7!

I know this makes things a little complicated, but am i best to to do this in DVDA and then send to my mac for the final burn? or should i just send my finished MPEG2 render to the mac and burn from there?

Not by default. (You can make it do if you go and customise the render settings. (The "Custom" button on the Render dialog.)

Better to keep it separate as an AC3 file. The AC3 renders usually only last a few moments, so it's no big deal.

Be sure to name the MPEG and AC3 files with the same base filename, i.e. MyMovie.mpg and MyMovie.ac3 so DVDA knows which audio goes with which video.

I'd create the DVD with DVDA, prepared to a folder, then copy the created files to the other machine to burn them.

Can someone Explain how I can get the Mpeg2 update which I think is ludacris that I have to go online to get something which should be on by default. Anyway my pc is not fit for the internet , Is there any way I can get the Mpeg2 render "update" Im guessing its called . Off the internet. Im very upset about this and the fact that I just broke my DVD drive off my 5 day old computer computer when I passed by it while it was open is really getting to me considering its going ot cost about 150$ to replace.

Hey Inspired Vision, I'm not sure what you're asking about here. I noticed you bumped this thread. Are you saying that you can't render your project as Mpeg2? I have no problem doing that and never purchased any updates. I'm using Vegas 6, and as far as I can tell, that was part of the package. Can you give any more information about the problem you are having?

Yeah, I don't know what "MPEG-2 update" you're talking about -- unless you're using a trial version of the software.

Hey Guy's

I bought Vegas 6.0 from B and H photo and I tried to render a Project using the " Mpeg2" setting. Im saving the file as Mpgeg2 and using the NTSC 24p widescreen template.

When I hit save this is the message that comes up

YOU MUST NOW REGISTER THE SONY MAINCONCEPT MPEG 1,2 PRO PLUGIN IN 1.0 TO CONTINUE USING IT.

IF YOU HAVE ACCESS TO THE INTERNET REGISTRATION IS QUICK AND EASY

PROVIDING YOUR CONTACT ENABLES YOU TO UNLIMITED MPEG 1 AND MPEG 2 ENCODING CUSTOMIZING YOUR MPEG TEMPLATES

THEN IT GIVES THESE OPTIONS

I WOULD LIKE TO

1. REGISTER ONLINE
2. REGISTER ON ANOTHER COMPUTER.

So........................I dont have access to the internet and Im very upset because I would like to make quality DVD's which is why I spent all my money on this setup.

Fellas , Thank you

???

Not to put too fine a point on it, but if you don't have access to the internet, how did you post that?

And how are you reading this?

Just register the software, that's all it wants you to do.

Don't know why that would come up -- maybe it's because you don't have DVD Architect installed? -- but Dan's right . . . just register it. It will cost you nothing.

It's really quite simple dan , I have two computer's one is strictly for editing and I dont bring it near the internet because I spent way to much money on it to have even the slightest chance of it being infected with a virus.

David :) Thank's for helping. I think you may be right with the whole DVDA assumption , I do not have it , I will be bringing it on soon , Although I had Vegas trial V 7.0 on my laptop without DVDA and that would render MPEG2 so my hope is slim. Will see what happends.

...I dont have access to the internet...
No worries...
I've tried a version of that with women before (I said, "Oh did you say that?! Sorry, sweetheart, I didn't have access to my ears at the time.") Needless to say, it never seems to work either.

Understood. Sony allows for that, too. That's why the second option was to do it from another computer.

Not sure how that works, though. Sending a file maybe with the info? Then getting back the code to ype in? Or gettng an email?

Yeah GenJerDan many editors whom i know also do that. Not only editors. Even 3ds max guys or any professional workstations. They rarely if ever connect to the net from it. Downloads and patches etc are done from another standby machine and then transfered to these systems. But if the second option can send a file to the workstation in order to UPDATE it. A virus could shure hitch a ride on that same file and enter into the main machine. In fact viruses only migrate using this kind of file activity to spread. I dunno what the logic of the manufacturer is. Maybe they want to allow you to update through a mchine which doesnt have a net connection. But still it defeats the purpose of staying virus free.

I have a question about burning a DVD...

I can't find the Make DVD button in Vegas 7... I mean, the other day... I somehow got my video and audio in Architect Studio... But for some reason... I can't for the life of me get it in there when I actually need to burn somethin... Can somebody please let me know what they think might be the problem my wrongefully possessed Vegas 7?

Thanks

Is there a longer way to get it into the Architect Studio? I render it as MPEG-2, but the audio doesn't render... And either way, when I try opening the MPEG-2 in the Architect (I save it to my Document) I can't... Ugh, maybe I'm just gonna reinstall it... But than I'd lose everything right?

You can have the audio mixed into the MPEG-2 render (check the box in the Audio tab of the Custom settings), but it's much better to render the audio separately as a .AC3 file. Be sure to use the same base filename.

Also, be sure to use one of the DVD Architect presets, not a generic MPEG-2.
