The 79th Annual ACADEMY AWARDS Thread - post as you watch!

Fiiiiiinally. After losing to Sylvester Stallone and Clint Eastwood among others, Scorsese finally got one of the coveted statues. Personally, I did not really care what other films won what awards. The Only one I was thinking of was best director, because Martin Scorsese is truely one of my heroes and one of my biggest infulences. This sounds like an oscar acceptance speech, I just realized that. anyway, I love Scorsese, he deserved it, and finally got it.

well he better be sucking their dicks for what he just got. i'd like to thank hong kong for giving us a movie that can be made well in america. the departed best film. congrats hong kong. and congrats matrin.

While I'm thrilled Marty finally won, I can't help but think it would have been HILARIOUSLY awkward if he hadn't won after they brought out Coppola, Lucas, and Speilberg.

It was rather obvious he was going to win with those three presenting the award. But that would have been something to see if he didn't.

Blanchet, Weisz and Winslet looked great last night.

I've always like Forest Whitaker and he was a good choice, but i thought Peter O'Toole might get it. Maybe Smith.

They tried to play down politics for Al Gores win with his power point documentary. But it was,,,by far the worst win of the night. Iran In Fragments should have beat it.Instead, "are you going to announce?" Pure politics.

I just can't stand the sound mixing and editing awards. Dreamgirls was so painfully and unarguably LOUSY in thgese regards!

Is it just me, or was the explaination of what "editing" is seem a little dumb? I guess they had to simplify it so people could get the jist with one or two sentences, but jeez.

The show had its moments but I was kinda meh about the whole thing. I was just bitter Children of Men didn't get nominated for much/win anything.

I still don't understand these periphery awards. Now, from what I gather, sound editors vote for sound editors. Writers vote for adapted screenplay. Etc. So I don't get why they get it wrong so often. I would think that sound mixing a war movie would be infinitely harder than sound mixing a musical. Still, the experts in the field vote for them, so it's not like they don't know what they're talking about.

Adapted Screenplay: I heard that the original book for Children Of Men was awful. And then they adapted into something pretty amazing. So shouldn't that be rewarded? Adapting something bad into something great? Or do they give it to the people who come closest to including everything from the original material? I'm so confused.

The guidelines they use to make a decision must be posted somewhere. Anyone?
