HDV in Vegas 6.0

Hmmm, im currently asking the same questions. Havent got any firm answers. I think a lot of people here dont work with HDV. I found some answers on google etc which id like to share with you. Basically HDV is the same bitrate of DV under 25 mbps. Depends on how you capture. Ive heard as a hdv stream it takes about 13 gb per hour of footage. But if your capturing as an uncompressed avi then it would be about 1gb per minute.

But whats on tape is m2t file right ? Is Vegas downconverting it ? Or is it untarnished and as per the orginal. Another big confusion im facing is that The sony z1 is a native 16:9 ccd. How come it outputs a frame size of 1440x1080 instead of 1920 on the x resolution ?? Anamorphic Pixels Fine. But why would a true 16:9 camera do unsquare pixels ? Isnt that a disorted manner of capturing the video ? Or is this done by the cam because it has to fit it onto dv standards and size ?

It's an .m2t file. There's no downconversion. It's a straight transfer.

1.333 pixels is the 1080 HDV spec. It doesn't have anything to do with DV. I suspect it's a bandwidth issue.

Yeah must be. Thats what i wanted cleared out. So this means the more pro pure HD cams out there must be recording to 1920x1080 with square pixels ?

Also what is the dvcam mode. Why does it occupy more space on the tape than the other 2 options DV & HDV ? Also what format gets onto DV cam tape ? Can Vegas work with it ? Any advantages like more clarity / color space etc ?

DVCAM is the same as DV, only the tape goes through faster -- less "scrunching" on the tape; theoretically fewer problems.

Vegas can work with the footage, but I'm not sure if the capture program can capture it or not.

Hmmmmm, David in situations like this what does one need in hardware to capture something undefined. Like format independent. Say you want to take footage into Vegas from a beta tape or a dvd or a whatever. Are there any capture cards or break out boxes which would work with Vegas or better still do not depend on the NLE and can just capture what is playing on the Beta Deck or respective device while storing onto the Harddrive as an avi etc ?? Do capture cards do this or is this the job of what they call a breakout box where we have several inputs such as Svideo, Component, Optical etc and the same type of outputs or even a usb which goes to the computer?
