I did some research on Costa Rica last year and was looking to move there. Politically stable country, friendly people, a lot of them speak English, a good mix of agriculture and tech (Intel has a plant there). Ideally, I'd love to get a house on the beach and telecommute.
How am I doing so far? Is it as glamorous as I've read? Obviously there will be some problem areas, but for the most part it sounds like a great place.
i imagine needing to spray "Leopard-B-GONE" ALL over yourself every few hours to keep the pesky leopards away while your barbecuing bats and fighting off conquistador pirates armed with muskets......
jk obviously.
its probably a nice quiet place heavily embedded with tourism, logging, possibly offshore natural gas/oil.
It is a wonderful country, I've been there 3 or 4 times. I prefer the much quieter neighbor to the north Nicaragua, since it's not yet over run with tourism. However CR is much more politically stable and less corrupt compared to NIC. But if you want to go to a place where the people aren't jaded and yankee haters go north yo.
This is one of the 1st ever videos to be created for tourism in Nicaragua, by me. i love this country because it wasnt' overrun by tourism, and now I'm contributing to it! haha.
I love Costa Rica. I almost decided to send the girlfriend home and setup shop as a nature guide down there. I met several knowledgeable local guides, but it's strange how I knew more that many of the others.
Beautiful beaches, dry tropical forest, montane cloud forest, tropical rainforest, grasslands, cannonball trees, monkeypot trees, howler monkeys, awesome volcanoes, hot springs, good food, nice people, insanely good coffee, indoor classical concerts for $2.00, cable canopy rides, suspension bridges, and lots of hammocks.
Wow most of you have a very positive idea about my country... that's great!!
I posted this because once I read someone saying that in Costa Rica people lived in trees and that really pissed me. But its great to know that people really like this place!!
Thanks!
Yea its weird how little we know about the world. Back 3 years ago before i went to taiwan i didn`t know it was an island hahaha...man was my (now current) girlfriend pissed when I said that...my friend thought it was all jungle too haha. I`ve heard costa rica is beautiful as well, they and taiwan have good relations at the moment. Please don`t be offended but i may never go there though because certain languages are abrasive to my ears :\ I`m more asian tuned.
Costa Rica does not have an army since 1948 when the civil war finished.
Back then the president Jose Figueres said "Costa Rica is going to be the only place in the world were there are more teachers than guns" And he kept the promise, right now, Costa Rica has more than 99% of alphabetism and education is free and mandatory until 9th grade. Actually is free all highshool, but mandatory till 9th.
Electrical coverage is even better than USA, covering 98% of all its territory and since it is provided by the government it is REALLY CHEAP. Also energy is mostly clean, since most of it comes from hidroelectrical plants. Lake Arenal for example was a village that was flooded to make a huge lake that currently produces about 50% of costa rica's electrical power. Cool right??
PS: Nop, no hookers on lamposts but you can find come downtown.. not as many as advertised, but the average.
It's not really as they advertise it. Yes, there are SOME underaged ones, but most of them are Full grown women that really know what they are doing.
Right now there is a huge campaign against child prostitution between tourists, there are some that really got caught and are now living in a nice permanent stay in the local jail.
