24p timeline in fcp

I normally shoot 24pa and I've tried capturing with the 2:3:3:2 pulldown removal and editing on a 24p timeline. And the footage looks awesome. But what can you do with a final project that isn't interlaced? The only place I can see to display the final project would be the web. What if I wanted to put it to dvd and show it on a tv. Then it converts it back to the pulldown and the quality turns to complete crap. Anyone know the benifits of a 24p timeline?

Or is it better to not capture with the pull down removal and still use a 24p timeline?

Thanks.

Just bumping this because I'd like to know the answer aswell. I was going to make a new thread, but then found this one.

Basically, how to get the best out of 24p / 24pA using FCP

yeah........ I don't understand why we can't out put to dvd with 24pa......can someone tell me why........

Not sure what you mean by cant output to DVD. DVD players play progressive just fine. When you take a progressive sequence to DVD you can fit more in terms of raw data/time as well. DVD players will play back progressive on an interlaced TV without issue adding pulldown as needed.

What program are you using to make this DVD? Because I have made many DVDs with DVCPRO HD 720p23.98 footage without a hitch.

Just output to a regular MPEG-2 for DVD. It'll be 24p, but DVDs support 24p material. I do it all the time. There's no real trick. Just export to MPEG-2 like you'd do anything else. It works just fine.

I do this a lot with both NTSC 24p and DVCPRO-HD 24p, never a problem. DVD Studio Pro will automatically make a 24fps DVD that most any player can handle.

Is this possible? Wouldn't the footage mismatch the 24p timeline, and play incorrectly?

When I was shooting sd I'd shoot 24p or 30p but not pa unless it was for greenscreen. I always felt it was better to know what the final product would look like rather than leaving it to a DVD player's pulldown. Your titles will also be much smoother and some effects are as well. Good Luck.
