i keep itching it, and damn it feels good but really i wish it would stop itching. i tried going on myspace, but that didn't distract me enough. any tips?

Cetirizin

or Cortaid, but the anti-allergy stuff works better.

Or I could post a photo of my blood-streaked shins to encourage you not to scratch yours like I scratch mine every Winter.

:)

genjerdan, i dont have any sorts of ointments like those here at work. do you think isopropanol will work? what about windex?

capt, it may come to that. but then ill lose that good itch feel with it. ohh what a dilemma!

First of all...what's the itch from? Chiggers? Rash? Exzema? Psoriasis? Poison Ivy?

Scratching only makes it worse...whatever it is. If you want it to stop itching for a while, rub some ice cubes on it.

I'd try a balm. Even though balms are unpredictable.

I get poison oak / ivy / summac at least once a year. Try running water over it, increasing the temperature gradually until it is very hot. Don't burn yourself.

Anyway, heat, unlike all the topicals releases histamine instead of blocking it. You will actually feel the histamine release. Can't say much more than this - it feels really good like... well, suffice it to say that you'll know when the treatment is done.

The relief will last for about six hours between treatments.

So what you're saying is that by slowly turning up the hot water and burning out the itchy area it results in an almost self medicating manner?

"burn" the itchy area with nearly scalding water. Not hot enough to hurt yourself, but hot enough to make it red, like the kind of water you cant tolerate on your skin for more than a second. just a quik splash will do it. it shocks the nerves back in to behaving. my hands itch sometimes and i wash my hands wit hthe hottest water i cantake, and it stops itiching immediatly

Where are you itchin? Crabs? (Dude, not me, but I've seen it happen to bros. And no, shaving and gasoline dousing won't work.) See a doc regardless. Could be basic/new allergy also. If not a doc, talk to your pharmacist. Their pretty cool.

Weird but, I have major scars from 7 consecutive years of poison ivy. Major allergic-not funny stuff. I finally gave up and went to the hospital and demanded an antibiotic. That was 30 years ago. Never had it since.

Edit: All of a sudden I sound like my mother. Ugh.

i took everyone's advice and choppped off my leg and then burned it. it seemed to be the best idea.

in all seriousness the itch has since went away, i started thinking about other things, like scheduling filming this weekend and it disappeared. all in the mind...

although now that im thinking about IT again....uh oh....
