300- Zach Snyder's new ride

Shaw, Rome did not model themselves after Sparta. By the time the actually had contact, Sparta was on a huge decline and really had nothing to do with Roman customs. I guess some can see dual leadership as a similarity to how Rome was governed, but there was no direct influence.

Depends on what you mean I suppose. Yes, Sparta was in decline after it's defeat by Thebes. The Romans were well aware of what classical sparta once was though and it seems many respected them unlike many of the other greek nation/states. Their military was a major influence on Roman thinking. One could also include similarities in government but I don't have sources on me at the moment to make a legitimate connection right now. My gut tells me that there was some level of Greek immitation in governmental style by the Romans.

Even ancient roman fighting tactics were completely different. The biggest thing about "Greek" armies is that the majority of there forces were poorly armed conscripts, mostly farmers. The problem with "Greek" nations is that they never evolved their fighting strategies and even in their late history they would bring large forces and make a huge line and fight phalanx warfare.

Not to mention Sparta was never a large population or needed a huge governing system, I also believe they never once wrote down any laws. By the time Rome had started to expand outside of Italy, they numbered under 1000 Spartans and I don't mean soldiers, I mean total population.

Another huge difference is that Sparta basically isolated itself off from the rest of the world, this is also partly due to geography as well as what I would consider "bad leadership". This is the complete opposite of Rome.

Now I TOTALLY want to see this!! :)

I just saw a movie that’ll give your eyes boners, make your balls scream and make you poop DVD copies of THE TRANSPORTER. It’s called 300. I don’t know what the title has to do with the movie, but they could’ve called it KITTENS MAKING CANDLES and it’d still rule.

It’s about these 300 Greek dudes who stomp the sugar-coated **** out of like a million other dudes. I have a feeling that a lot of high school sports coaches are going to show this film to their teams before they play. Also, gay dudes and divorced women are going to use screen captures for computer wallpaper.

The movie takes place about a million years ago, and it’s sort of like a prequel to SIN CITY. Except way less guns and cars but twice as much skull splitting. If you watch this movie and go into a Taco Bell, and say to the cashier, “I need some extra sauce packets” guess what? You’re getting twenty sauce packets because your face will punch him in the brain.

I can’t spoil the plot because THANK GOD THERE ISN’T ONE. Just ass kicking that kicks ass that, while said ass is getting kicked, is kicking yet more ass that’s hitting someone’s balls with a hammer made of ice but the ice is frozen whiskey.

TWO COOL THINGS ABOUT THE MOVIE AND ONE THING I DIDN’T LIKE:

COOL THING ONE:
HEAVY METAL DURING BATTLE SCENES

Who gives a **** if the music isn’t historically correct? LORD OF THE RINGS could’ve used some Journey. This movie has that chu-CHUNG kind of metal that you hear in your head when your shift supervisor at Wetzel’s Pretzel is telling you that you’ll have to stay for clean up and you wish you had a sock filled with quarters in your hand.

COOL THING TWO:
FOES, MINI-BOSSES AND A BIG BOSS

Basically, the Greek dudes are fighting these Persian dudes, but the director, who must have a dick made of three machine guns, does it all like a video game. The Greeks fight every death metal video from the last ten years. There’s wave after wave of giants, freaks, ninjas, mutants, wizards, and a hunchback who looks like he’s got Rosie O’Donnell on his back.

Would I have been happy if Dom DeLuise from HISTORY OF THE WORLD, PART I had shown up? Maybe, but this movie more than makes up for that glaring oversight.

NOT SO GOOD THING:
DUDE NUDITY (“DUDE-ITY”)

These are Greek times, when there were a lot of naked women around. And there are some naked women in this film, but almost every naked woman scene has a muscular dude giving the screen an ass picnic. Dude-ity is something directors put in their movies so people will think they’re serious, I guess, and not just throwing in naked hotties.

Any directors reading this – IT’S OKAY TO JUST THROW IN NAKED HOTTIES.

Can’t someone make a movie about naked Amazons and call it PAUSE BUTTON?

My final analysis is 300 the most ass-ruling movie I’ve seen this year, and will probably be the King of 2007 unless someone makes a movie where a pair of sentient boobs fights a werewolf.

Actually most of the “DUDE-ITY” that was found within the comic will not be in the film.

It was shot here in Montreal. Someone I met on a set worked on 300 and he had a production book and told me all about it. and showed us a few of his photos. As if I weren't excited enough about it! :D

Who cares about plot? This thing looks amazing!

I'm not buying the no-plot deal. Miller wouldn't play agian if that were the case. ie see Miller film involvement before Sin City. I'm a little shocked. I don't want to believe there is no story. Could it be that the visuals are soooooo stunning that the plot is eclipsed.
Another viewing perhaps?

There is a plot and story, well, at least there is in the graphic novel.

That's what I was afraid of. I've never read "300" but I'm familiar with most of Miller's work from the 80's as well as Sin City and I've never been disapointed. I was really pleased with the way Sin City came out. Why was the story ignored, Damn it!

What I meant is, there should be a story in it. Hell, there has to be, it is based on what of the most famous battles of all time, that alone is the story, regardless of how fantastic is gets.

My boss gave me this cool book about the film. It's got storyboards that were done and a bunch of other stuff and it looks SLICK...

I want there to be a movie theatre that is showing this Thursday Night / Friday Morning at 12:00 AM or something. So I can go in the next day and everyone will be like, "Seeing it tonight!!"

I'll be like, "I've already seen it!"

More because I'm so excited about it that I can't wait, I'd go see it just a few hours earlier. The earliest possible time for me. That's when I'm going.

This is easily going to be my favorite movie of 2007.

Just found out there is an advance screening at my school, and it's at 7pm Thursday evening, so I can even gloat to the people who are going to see it at midnight! The joy!

Checked out the soundtrack today, pretty good, should add a lot of emotion/energy to the film.

:crybaby: Only a few more days to go! :crybaby:

Saw an advance screening of the film last night. It was really a great movie. The theatre was packed, and I got in a bit late- so I had to take the dreaded front seat. The projectionist was a dumbass, so it was slightly out of focus, and the sound at that particular theatre was terrible. But, despite all of that, the movie KICKED ASS!!!!

just got back from seeing it. awesome film. the film looks amazing. the special effects were kick ass, and the acting, while sort of "overacting" at times fit in well with the film. zack snyder did a great job directing the film, Damon Caro’s fight choreography is awesome. loved the constant change of the speed of the shots during the fight scenes. go see it. NOW
