Final Cut Pro 6 to be seen at NAB?

I'd be down for a nice new version of FCS 6 with a bunch of nice bells and whistles (basically better color correction, and better media manager within and without Final Cut Pro itself; each of these basically corresponds with two sizeable acquisitions Apple has made recently) I'm not so sure I'd be happy if Apple went and split up the Final Cut lline any more b/c I can easily see Extreme being prohibitvley expensive while some features that would have been in the regular version are saved for the big boy. Apple's smart though, and I'm sure they'll realize that there's not really any more room for another version and they'd do better with a cheaper fully featured software anyway. Okay...that's all I have to say :)

Check out the story at ThinkSecret. It's dated from today and it explains the lack of a new version for the last little while.
Peace,

Might be dated today but it's pretty much the same story ie two versions of fcp etc as all thinksecret does is speculate so therefore it's a re-hash of speculation so im calling it todays date or not.

I think a Hardware version of FCP would be a good idea to act against the DS/Symphony Avid systems.

I do believe the rumor about a new FCS this year has to be true though. DVD Studio Pro needs to finish it's support for HD_DVD and add support for Blu-Ray as well. I expect it to be unwailed soon. Remember that Apple banner, "welcome to 2007." Ipone was not the only thing Apple plans to release this year. Remember, Jobs said he was saving talking about the Mac for another day.

FCP6 will no doubt be at NAB. Don't really know that I need to upgrade anytime soon, but better CC would be nice, as would: render farming, smarter media management, HD-DVD/Blu-Ray in DVDSP, and I would LOVE a revamped Browser...heck even a FCP version of iPhoto.

Not sure that the Extreme version is gonna do anyone any good. The Avid guys aren't gonna switch just because Apple makes it. And there are some decent options for third party hardware for FCP that would still cost less than what Apple could make this Extreme thing for...$10,000. But, if Apple wants to make a guaranteed-to-work-with-with-FCP BOB, I'd be interested.

Final Cut Pro Extreme is a rumore, and nothing more. Apple has actually publicly stated on two occations that I was at their offices, that it is nothing more than a rumor, and that this Extreme version is the type of mega hardware based NLE system that more and more companies are phasing out in favor of more desktop editing bays that can do the same work for much cheaper. Just telling you what Apple has officially said in my precense in public.

Final Cut Studio 6 will take advantage of the new graphics engine in Lepord. It will be GPU centered, which means a some of y'all will have to upgrade to pretty hefty video cards to use it. It'll rock. NAB is going to be very exciting for FCS users. Just don't believe rumors that are over a year old and still have no evidence.

The DS/Symphony systems are not selling like they used to, they're not as popular, and many are being replaced by groups of desktop systems that can do the same thing. There was a great article about it in some broadcasters magazine. Wish I could find it. But editors at several major studios were saying in that article that the Symphony is not going to be around for the long haul, as the desktop systems get more powerful, and can do the same thing, for less money.

I also don't remember Apple even hinting at an FCP 6 at last NAB. The statement that it's been delayed for a year, nope, it wasn't a delay. The personel shift wasn't exactly as that article states it. Mac rumors sites are not always right. Flip a coin.

Someone once pointed out that FCP does version point upgrades every other year. If that's true, FCP 6 this year would be right on schedule, wouldn't it?

The only thing i care about is HD DVD and BD support, FULL support. Scenarist and Cinevision is just not an option for me.

Hi Ben ! Any idea what cards might benefit or work best with FCS6. I have a Pro Mac 2.66 2Gb Ram (looking at getting another 2) and the X1900 XT video card. I also have a decklink PCIe card and was wondering if FCS6 will utilise any of these to improve rendering .
One last thing. I am changing over from Vegas to Mac . I have to say I love Vegas but I'm looking for one complete hardware and software solution that can offload to production houses for finishing.
I've decided to invest in a Macbook Pro and have a little time before I buy. I was wondering if you have heard anything about Apple updating their existing line before the end of the year ?

No one has heard ANYTHING about FCP 6. If they have, they can't talk about it. All that is out there are rumors. No one knows anything. After 1PM on Sunday, then we can talk about what we know. That is the day of the Apple announcement.

One can only assume, but I am sure FCP6 will work well with any of the intel macs. And you can always update the video card on the Mac Pros. So Ray you are safe. Now the folks with G5's need to worry.
