what should I get for $10,000?

That's why most of us don't do it that way; we use two cards and swap 'em out. Even with just two 4GB cards I never have to stop recording throughout the day. But that workflow does require having a laptop (or P2 Store) available.

I'd have to have a laptop AND P2 store, right? I have the laptop, but no way to connect the cards, meaning I'd have to stop shooting and connect the camera through fire wire.

how long does it take to transfer the cards to the p2 store and the p2 store the the macbook pro? it seems like a $1600 box that just takes more time from the production.
Are there just not that many people using macbook pros? this seems like a huge issue.

No, you press the record button on the camera and DV Rack senses it and starts recording.

ooooooo really? still not sold, but that alone scores big points for DVrack

already have the pelican case, already have lights. Please tell me about this "GREAT" tripod you can get for $1000!

Also... look into some of the older model Bogen tripods.. Got a great used pair on ebay for 500 and been using them for almost 5 years now..

I'd also say that you'd want to get a good on-camera mike.. Possibly a small LED light..as well. I also go with backpacks over pelicans for ease and mobility.

The P2store is a great device for rough locations and the offload times aren't too bad at all. Takes maybe 5 minutes too offload a card to the p2store.... If you are shooting 720 you also get a good amount of record time.. and all on one single battery.

spiderbrace for 70 bucks is also a nice purchase... Good luck!

I agree with Justyn. Maybe a Sennheiser ME series mic and a VidLED light. Those would be our recommendations.

Andrew Hoffman

Or save more money and get an Audio Technicha AT 897. that is an AMAZing mic for less than 300. its not as hot as the Senn, but its just as clear and warm.

Well I am going to recommend a different route and say this late in the game you should consider the Canon A1.
Camera $3600
FS-4ProHD 80GB $1500 ( includes 3 hour battery)
RedRock Micro 35mm adapter $1300
Colorista ($200)
Film Magic Pro ($50)
Tripod $400 max (this isn't a big AZZ shoulder cam)
Cheapest on camera monitor you can find for focus and color accuracy it doesn't need to be hd. $500 (just guessing)
Everything else on marketing materials and storage.
*Edit and mics and sound stuff.

out of the question, the whole reason I'm upgrading is to get 4:2:2 and variable framerates. HD is a bonus.

i already have a good shotgun mic too.

I would get the camera (free 8G) plus 4G + - $5800

Tripod Bogen 516 with decent sticks +-$1000 http://www.bhphotovideo.com/bnh/con...458&is=REG&addedTroughType=categoryNavigation

Storm case- flight legal im2500 +- $125

UV filte B + W +- $110

Bebob foxi ff +- $500

Vocas MB +- $1100

Oktava mic, all the accessories, pole, shock mount etc. +- $500

A couple of flolights +- $1000

Batteries, reflectors, lcd hood, filters with whatever is left over.

I wouldn't mess with the adapters unless I had more dough. You will definitely need a Marchall for focus, lenses ect. plus buying the adapter. 10k doesn't get it done as far as prioritizing IMO

Hey bosindy,
How are things in MA. we are still here waiting for the next hvx user meeting.
Just thought I'd jump in. I think you can find a cheaper MatteBox than $1100. The vocas is really nice, but Redrockmicro is coming out with one as well, plus there are others.
Just my 2cents.

yo sin, It's as cold as a witch's nip in good old Mass. I may be in LA in March if the meeting is happening the weekend I am there. I had a blast at the last one.

I heard about the Mattebox by redrock. Seems like a great deal. They usually take awhile to get their products to market, but it looked solid. As well as the remote FF. drool.

why is the marshall so expensive? It's not even HD. do they made HD 7" monitors?

there's gotta be other 16x9 monitors for under $1000, right?

Have you given Scopebox ($699) a try. it record straight into your macbook pro. it supports HD too. Allow you to use your macbook as a external monitor on site. Filp the image if you are using a 35mm adapter.

here is the link

http://scopebox.com

I was also looking at this upgradble matte box system.upgrade as you go along ($160 starter set) , but if you are getting the M2 , this fits well, according to the site.
