So i got the Rycote Baby Ball Gag for my Octava MK-012 today, but i have no idea how to put it on the mic. Does it twist in half or something? There is the small rubber hole that the mic goes through but unless there is a way to slide it in from the top, I don't see how this can work very well. The tip of my Octava slightly widens at the end so it doesn't fit in the 20mm hole and if i were to force it in, there I'm afraid I'd neve be able to get it out. Somebody tell me theres a trick to this.

thanks

The BBG twists apart in the middle. Looking down at it from the top, gently turn it counterclockwise and it will come apart.

Hi all,
I just got my Oktava and BBG. I was so surprised how small the Oktava was!! I got the black Bello Negro, the SSM-1 shock mount, and the BBG w/ wind jammer. I've gotten the BBG open and inserted the Oktava. My question is how far in I should put it. Should go so the rubber is just behind the place where the capsule screws on? It seems like that leaves JUST enough (not much) room for stabilization with the SSM-1. Am I correct that I should pretty much always use the BBG on the Oktava?
Finally, when would I use the -10dB pad vs. just adjusting the volume levels in camera and/or in post?
thanks so much!!!!

you should put the mic as far forward into the bbg as possible. you only need the pad in super high volume enviornments like a rock concert. Do not use it otherwise.

Unless you are mouting the boom in a c-stand and it won't be moving, you should just leave the bbg on.

thanks a lot! I'll put the Oktava as far into the BBG as possible but that is just not very far at all if I want to also have some stability in a shock mount. its pretty much just past the capsule.
thanks for the help.
