CinePorter™ FAQ

We are all a priority to SpecComm, and when they are ready for shipping I am sure Several Thousand will go out the first day,. We barley hold, lets just say, 1% of their buyers. Networks and Studios are in Line for 100's(guesstimate) of CinePorters per network. We'll get them and we'll get them in a timely fassion. What I am saying is, SpecComm has been great to get us involved as much as they have. Lets be content with the 10% off for just being around :) They will manufacture enough, and will get them when they come out. It will not be like the HVX's where Panasonic only runs a certain amount of HVX's per month.

What is a good case for HVX-200 *and* Cineporter?

What is a good case for HVX-200 *and* Cineporter?

I hate to start discussing cases in the cineporter dungeon, but since it *does* involve the cineporter...

What are the Pelican case concerns in regards to the cineporter?

Apparently, the 1510 is gonna be too snug/questionable for the HVX-200 and the cineporter.

1 - How tall is the HVX-200 with the cineporter attached?...including the mic holder.

2 - What is the biggest issue most people have with HVX-200 cameras and the size of pelican cases? (other than ability to carry onto an airplane in some cases). Is it the depth of the case?

3 - Wouldn't it be ideal to place the camera bottom-side down (handle up) into the case (requiring more height in the case)?

- If so, what would the SMALLEST pelican case be that could comfortably handle this?
- 1510 is 19.75 * 11.00 * 7.6 inches tall internal.
- 1560 is 20.37 * 15.43 * 9.
- 1610 is 21.68 * 16.62 * 10.56
- 1620 is 21.37 * 16.31 * 12.56

All other cases are at least 7 inches taller...pretty huge.

The Pelican website seemed pretty slow, so I have attached a size chart that I scanned of all of their cases.

BTW, for those living in larger cities on the west coast of the US, Fry's Electronics stock several Pelican cases.

I bought a 1610 right after I got my HVX in anticipation of the Cineporter. There is still plenty of room inside, but I didn't want to get another case a few months later.

It's always better to have too much room than not enough...

No.

I have the camera sitting upright, and the microphone holder sticks up a little into the foam in the case lid. It's not bad and I don't think there is any risk of damage to the microphone holder, but if the Cineporter was underneath the camera, the lid definitely would not close.

After scanning 60+ pages... cant find the answer these.

1) Regarding the external HD's: They can be put in a USB enclosure like Barry Green suggests for a client.... and then my client can edit/access video WITHOUT cineporter, right?

2) If so, which formats can I choose from (QT, avi, etc. ) that are compatible with other editing software and maintain the quality of the footage, specifically the variable frame footage?

I'm back to lurking at DVXuser after FINALLY getting the scratch to buy a HVX. (did everything but sell blood!). CP-3 seems perfect for my needs.

I'm probably the only one on this board not bummed out about Summer release. Gives me plenty time to save up rather than ebaying everything I own!

1) I believe that's the plan, although only Spec-Comm can verify for sure.
2) I believe that the only format that the CinePorter will record is MXF Op-Atom. No .AVI, no QT.

Best regards,

Haha, just thought I would bring this picture back from the past.

there was mention of a buffer feature for prerecord before, has there been a decision as to how many seconds this would be?

thanks, gary

I have a question that I could not find an answer to for the last 68 Pages. Maybe I just didn't find it, so be please patient.

The 320GB version of the Cineporter contains two discs as a Raid 1, that means on both discs is the same footage, right?
What I want to know is this: With disc 1 I go into postproduction while disc 2 can go on the shelf for archiving? Yes or no? Or did I get something wrong here. Just want to be sure before spending 1200$ more for the 320GB Version.
If the answer is yes, then this is a no brainer for me.

Peter

Hello again,

David is still out but I have some answers for you.

Panther, 1) As long as the content wasn't recorded on either RAID 0 or 1. 2) Barry is right. Thanks Barry. :)

Gary, Prerecord function is the same as the P2 Card. If you asking about CACHE, it will be shipped 512 MB.

Augenblick, I think post #575 answers your question.

Thanks guys,

Andrew Hoffman

so according to my calculations that's 30 seconds of prerecord with 1080i 30p.
Is that correct?

Hi Gary,

It's almost 30 Sec. of Cache (there is a little bit of overhead) at 1080i.

The Pre record length is set in the camera just like for the P2 card.

David

Impressive. I love the prerecord function. It eliminates those times you press record just a little to late! Glad to see the cineporter is keeping all we love about P2!

Yeh, try recording lightning, or children and animals for that matter.
The pre-record is friggin awesome!!!

it is awesome but I sure was hoping that the cache in the Cineporter would give us more than the 3 sec (HD) that P2 gives us. I could use 15 seconds. Not complaining mind you, just got excited there for a minute but I was mistaken.

THoff has the right info on this. The PreRecord is strcily a camera function. See page 47 of your HVX manual.

Actually, I don't think you do. There is almost 30 seconds of cache, which I assume is to protect against I/O bottlenecks, deal with vibration, and maybe hard drive spin-down when the camera has been idle.

It would seem to me that the pre-record buffer is handled entirely in the camera, and that the capacity of the P2 media or the size of the internal cache in the Cineporter has no bearing on this.
