Also, in there disclaimer it says that the producers have the final say who gets kicked off that show.

Yep. It's about the producer's telling a "story". Contestants are "characters". Bottom line.

i entered...but didnt upload online.

I completely agree with everyone that has stated reasons for not entering. I wouldnt want to be known as the "On the lot guy." But in the end it just felt wasteful not to try. I dont deserve to make it if i'm not taking every opportunity availible to do so.

But...the thing i sent in isnt that great...so I'm not expecting to be picked anyway.

No matter who wins..... I highly doubt they'll find "the next great filmmaker" on this show.

Wow I am just a lurker/Newbie, so I don't understand why everyone WOULDN'T want to be on a show where you get to showcase your talents to the likes of Speilberg.

Hey even if you didn't win, the networking opportunities alone would make it worth it.

Maybe I am wrong, and maybe the stain of Reality TV would be too hard to wash off a career, but with so much competition, you need some sort of angle to get in the door,NO?

I was strongly considering entering, until I noticed the fact that you needed to set aside 4 months to be on the show if selected.

Since I am going to college, that wouldn't be a viable option. But hey, I can still watch the show.

It did look really cool though, and if it wasn't for the 4 month deal, I would have done it.

Yeah, Brandon's right, I entered a TIGHT 5 minute cut of WHERE SILENCE FALLS. Unfortunately I don't think the interview section/intro is going to impress them at all, as I'm not a flamboyant character & could hardly even keep my eye lids open at that point (I filmed it at 1am the day of the deadline).

Got the thing uploaded, and then application & thermal printed DVD was in the mail 5 minutes before the post office closed. Talk about close.

I'll be the first to post a link in this thread:

While I'm truthfully scared to think of what the editors & producers could make me or anyone else look like on the show, the fact of the matter is that I see that as a good problem to have ... meaning to even GET that far for it to be an issue. I think it'd be GREAT exposure, and as someone else said, some excellent networking opportunities.

I won't hold my breath to get a call, but at least I submitted as I had a lot of family & friends wanting me to.

My friend Rob directed this, and I was the DP, if I may use that term. I used my DVX 100a for about 95% of this short film.
There was some color correction done to certain shots that I'm not crazy about...but you were wondering about who submitted what, so here you go.

Thanks for the link. Was he only interested in having it posted/exhibition? I noticed he went over on the time limits for both the introduction of himself, as well as the film, so just curious.

We entered a short edited section of our feature comedy "Bad Service"...the short is called "A Man on Edge".

At first I was on my high horse like everyone else saying, "I don't want to be that reality show winner guy."

And then reality slapped me in the face and said, WHAT THE F*CK IS YOUR PROBLEM! A one million dollar development deal!! A chance to direct a movie on a large-scale?? Are you kidding me?? 99.9% of the people on these boards will never get an opportuity like that. So even if you're doing it as that "reality show winner guy", at least you're doing it.

Anyway, while my entry is only a test scene for my film, I just acted like a lunatic on the intro. So if they do pick me, it's probably going to be because of that rather than the film. But we'll see.

And yes, I'll post when I upload, which (if you're lurking in other areas of the site), you'll realize that I'm having trouble with.

I was on the fence about it, but then after watching some of the "Most Talked About" films and some of the higher star rated films, I wanted to send one in because the popular films were not that good. It gave me hope.

I thought about the reality TV aspect of it, and the potential benefits outweighed the negatives for me. Just to say that Spielburg watched a film of yours, well, that's pretty neat to me. And just to have the chance or the opportunity to make a good film was too good to pass up. I've always wanted to do something in the film industry, and always felt like I had potential or talent, but I never had the belief. After re-evaulating a lot of things about myself, I decided that life's too short and you should go for what you want and do what you love to do. I'm still a mega amateur, but learning all the time.

So, we'll see what happens. The only truth I can see in it is that reality shows want drama and conflict, naturally, so they're probably going to pick people who are different or have issues, just to have more potential for argument and conflict. No one wants to watch a film shoot that goes smoothly, unless you're the one making the film.

I'm always up for an adventure, and that looked like it would be a fun one! So fingers are crossed!

Also remember that if the show is even moderately successful they'll have several more seasons, and several more chances, and you'll be able to better gauge what you're getting yourself into and how best to compete.
