Digital photography and light meter

Hello everyone, I just bought a light meter, Sekonic l-758 cine Digital Master. I know how use the meter for film still photography but I have no idea of how to use it it with digital. I've looked over the instructions manual but when it comes to the digital part I'm completely lost. Is there any who can give me a few pointers?

Can it really be that simple? There are things in here that I've never heard of. What is Digital Exposure Profiling and Number compensation?
There is also a camera test that one is supposed to do that requires a 18% gray card. White balance card and gray step Wedge or a Sekonic test target.
 
Digital Exposure Profiling is a feature on the light meter that allows you to store the dynamic range of your camera. Because no two types of cameras are exactly alike it allows you to calibrate the meter for your camera.
 
Does this mean that until I calibrate the meter to the digital camera I shouldn't use the meter for digital photography?
 
No it just means that if you calibrate it it will give you a more accurate suggested exposure for your camera. Let's say you take a reading with the meter and it says for proper exposure to set it to 2.8. Depending on your camera that could be slightly off but if you calibrate it it should be closer to true exposure
 
I can actually use the same meter, doing with the same basic procedure for both film and digital photography, but it only be slightly off in the case of digital photography?
 
Thank you for the help, Silver Wolf. One last question: The scale that starts with a -7 and goes up to +7 is related to the exposure profiling
and calibration, correct? Plus its use only makes sense after the camera info has been entered into the meter. Am I getting this right?
