opinions on use of opening credits

I know the topic of discussion has digressed from the original question, but I decided I'd share my opinion anyway.

For big picture films, anything that's being shown on the big screen, it's okay to have a big title sequence, animation, no animation... whatever. I think in the case of independent film, films that we make, people aren't expecting to see a big spectacle. People do not have high expectations. With commercials providing entertainment for people and a YouTube generation brewing, people want entertainment NOW - RIGHT AWAY. They want the whiz bang right away, and they're not going to sit for "some independent dude" to show credits. Personally, I think it should be Production House (if you have one), and title, and my titles are always over film. There is very little black at the beginning of it, because my perception is that people came for the film, not the credits. Show as many credits you want at the end, because people will have already seen the movie. My mom always stays for the credits, that's good enough, right?

i'm going to open up my movie without credits and then start playing them after the first scene.

I'm going to drive to the homes of everyone whos seen the movie and tie them up and put toothpicks in their eyelids like A.C.O. and then make them watch the credits against a black background until they can recite them name by name. And then I'm going to put TLC nework on and just leave.

I like movies that start right away, and get right to it. I prefer the "above the line" title credits to come at the end. That always seems to say to me, "all this director cares about is the movie, and the viewers' purist experience of it."
