test phrases to check mic?

I'm curious if there is a standard phrase people use to test a mic for frequency response and pops and such. I'm curious cause i made a little DIY pop filter and want to see how it affects a voice.
I guess something with a lot of sibillance and pops would be good.
anything standard out there for this?

I was serious, I always ask that for a sound check. I want people to talk naturally to set levels before an interview. testing 1.2.3 is always way different sounding than people actually talk.

ha ha just kidding i just never learned to count to the numbers after 2.

Reminds me of the old joke:
Why does the sound guy say, "Test one, two, one, two"?
A: Because at 3 you usually have to lift something.

(haha, lazy soundman, get it?)

For setting levels the breakfast question is a tried and true method. Other good questions, last nights dinner (fallback when they didn't have breakfast), where you went of vacation last (often gets them excited so you can get some range), or ask them to tell you about the last movie they saw.

For testing the mic, just slur your "s"s and pop your "p"s as you speak a comfortable distance from mic.

Cheers

i wanst asking about setting levels .. in my case, i want to know if my DIY pop filter his working well for instance... i need a phrase that easily distinguishes pops / hisses / bass/ trebble and such for a quick -n- dirty type setup

"Pop goes the weasel ticky-tock ticky-tock while Suzie sells seashells by the seashore - t'anta, p'unchay, q'arachupa tuta - amapuni qhapariwaychu!"

'Course your Quechua pronunciation has to be good for this to work.

wise asses :) comon there's gotta be an audio equivalent of the "lorem ipsum" or something

Actually timapter wasn't far off the mark. There is a reason a live sound engineer says "CHECK, ONE, TWO, into the mic. Those three words pretty much cover the frequency spectrum. You get the the highs with check, the mids with one and the lows and very highs with two.

"Pop sibillance test, one, two, six, seven"

"Pop sibillance test, one, two, six, seven"

"Pop sibillance test, one, two, six, seven"

Great sound is half the picture!
