Cineform crashes Vegas 7 during editing.

I'm using v3.3 of cineform
I would import clips into the media bin, sometimes it would just crash for no reason. And during editing.. when i preview (draft), it still crashes.

Im editing on my laptop, e1505, 2 gig duo core, 1 gig, 60 7200 rpm.

Was wondering if anyone is having this problem?

Yes, I have on v6 of Vegas. I submitted a ticket but they couldn't find anything and I haven't had the time to get them more info yet.

I got round it by capturing the footage as one big piece and then chopping it up by hand. I did read that someone else had success with capturing as one big file and then doing a second pass on the file to split it up. But I haven't tried that.

I'm kind of glad I'm not going crazy and someone else has the problem - maybe you can put in a ticket and have more time to work it through with them.

Btw - what camera are you capturing from?

Hiro:

Are you using HDLINK first to convert the clips to cineform intermediate and the when you bring the converted intermediate clips into the the Vegas media bin the program crashes?

yep. thats corrected.

I submitted a ticket, they asked for a sample of the clip. i'm doing that now.
they recommended that i update to vegas 7d and install the latest cineform v3.4, it still crashes randomly.

thanks for taking the time to help me out, i really appreciate it

You might try to put your source material on another hard drive so it doesn't share it with you're OS drive. Also try to turn off any unnecessary programs running in the background. IE firewalls, antivirus, etc.

Did you try using HDLink on the Cineform file again to split it? I.e. Convert from single m2t to Cineform, then run a second time to get the scene detection?

I gave up and did it by hand...took a while as I had about 170 clips in one file.

Please let me know if you find a solution!

yea i use HDlink to do scene detect, i got a crap load of clips..

if doing one long clip solve the problem, then i'll give it a shot..
to be honest.. im a lil dissapointed with cineform, this codec is not stable at all..

its one of the main reasons why i got the xh a1, now im just regretting that i didnt get the hvx.

Hiro...you might first update your cineform to v3.4 and try again...there were a lot of fixes. Having the HVX has it's problems also..especially when trying to convert the DVCPRO to MPEG file for editing. You will need another program to do the conversion. I have no problems using the Cineform v3.4 to convert my m2t files.

The CineForm codec is very stable, it has been around for nearly 5 years now (although growing through that time.) There have been issues in the past with Vegas 7a/c, yet those were Sony bugs, not CineForm. Hiro, your stablity issues are likely system dependent, I hopely the support staff can help find the cause.

I'm pretty sure the issue lies within Vegas, not Cineform. I used the Cineform trial and it worked perfectly with Vegas 7. Did you try importing as one clip? Sometimes it does take a while for the clips to load in the timeline.

The codec works but the program randomly crashes during editing, and during rendering, it freezes. I tried on my other computer and it does the same thing.

What do you mean by 'I uninstalled cineform'? Did you do a reinstall of a different version, the same version or no version?

When I uninstalled cineform, only the codec that came with vegas remained.. when i installed cineform.. it was v2.6 .. now its just v2.5

V2.6? How old is that codec are you using? Connect HD is now V3.4 for use in Vegas. You didn't download something like Project HD or Aspect did you? Those are for Premiere Pro NLE's not Sony Vegas. Thought you said you download v3.3 earlier in thread. Also did you also update you're Direct X Files to the latest version? In addition..how much ram are you using? You should have at least 2gb's since HD uses a lot of ram to run vegas smoothly. Make sure you meet all the minimum requirements before use. I've had no problems with cineform and in fact it makes Vegas a lot smoother during editing.

The current demo download is ver 3.41 build 36. I am running 3.4 with no problems on a 3.20ghz pentium p-4 with 3mb of ram. I also run it on a 3.ghz p-4 with 2mb and no problems? This is with Vegas 7d
