HDV Editing in PPro 1.5.1

When starting a new project, I set the preferences to HDV 1080i 29.97. When I inport HDV footage its widescreen and plays great in the preview window but as soon as I plave the clip in the timeline it appears to be playing it back in 4x3 and zoomed in. I can't change the zoom on the record monitor (its greyed out).

I have checked the project settings, in the general project settings the editing mode is greyed out and I can't adjust it. If I press the playback settings button I get the HDV Playback Settings GUI with Enable YUV checked, Use DirectX Enable External Monitor unchecked and Save Transcode File Checked

In the Frame Size it is 1440H 1080V but they are greyed out and I can't adjust them. The rest is normal stuff. In the Capture Preferences HDV is chosen (It captured without any problems and no where to adjust resolution so I guess it captured correctly) :)

In the Video Rendering GUI Compressor is CineForm HDV 1080i 29.97. If I click on the configure tab I get the HDV Compiler Settings which just has a button that if you click on it you get the option to upgrade the CineForm Codec, there are no adjustments to make.

I can't find any other setting that might be causing this. In the info tab of the clips the resolution is 1440x180(1.333) which is correct for HDV. Any suggestions or thoughts where I might find some help would be appreciated. :engel017:

I'm just courious to know what your computer specs are? I don't have that problem on my computer. The only problem really is my computer is way too slow for HD. I can capture only to drop hundrends of frames. I just don't have a fast enough CPU and I lack a decent video card. I've been tweaking with the FX1 and I like it but the DVX still kicks ass.

I have a single 3.7Ghz HT P4 with 2GB RAM and currently I have about 1TB of external FW drives (non raided). It captures and plays back fine. The problem I was having seems to be a bug. If I close the record monitor, thereby closing the sequence and re-open it, the aspect ratio and everythin seems to be fine.

I have the Dell 24" HD monitor and the footage looks great. But I haven't found a way to compress the footage for sharing with the fine folks here for example. Everything that I have tried so far looks like crap. I have tried encoding with quicktime -didn't work at all, the Cineform AVI - noisy and there was nowher to adjst the resolution. Any ideas?

I am reviving this old thread because I'm having EXACTLY the same problem. Chuck, did you ever find a solution? Is the only answer to pony up $500 for Cineform?

I don't know Sean, Is your record monitor set to "fit?" Sometimes I set it to 100%, and forget to change it back, and I wonder why the video looks like it's zoomed in. Just a thought.

Thanks Kevin, but as Chuck experienced, the record monitor is greyed out...so I can't adjust between 100% and fit, etc.

I tried restarting as a new project but am having the same problem.

My version of Premiere Pro is 1.51. I just downloaded the demo of 2.0, and will see if it fixes the problem. (At least the 2.0 upgrade is $200 versus $500 for Cineform!)

Any other ideas are welcome...
