What's all this spyfest talk about?

Yep. Actually. The woman lead in Smuggler's, Marina Resa, as well as several other actors in Smuggler's were from LACasting.

I believe we cast 4 or 5 people from that site that were in Smuggler's Ransom, and I think I cast 2 people from there that were in Captain Fundraiser.

look for an on camera acting class in your area and ask if you can observe as a filmmaker generally looking for people of for various projects.
you will see people work on camera.
also, volunteer to tape that days class with a simple light set up.
most on camera classes are just taping under flourescents with a single chip camera.
A little salesmanship should get you in the door.
Now you are auditioning people in a way where you can see their work a bit better and on breaks and stuff you can see who is really eager and whatnot.
I've only done this for the whole class - like every week - but it seems like you could get in for one or two classes also. You'll also meet people that you will want to write parts for.

Brilliant Jack, a very good idea if you can do it!

Great idea, Jack! I've been meaning to stop in on one of those places!

Nauseated or feeling malaise. Combined derivative of blah and urgh.
I'm not sure what's wrong, I'm just feeling blorg.

Oh, my spies will certainly be morally questionable, if nothing else. In fact, I emphatically don't believe in the idea of a "good" spy. The whole strength of the genre, and why I love it, is its necessary embrace of moral gray area, real dilemmas.

Brandon, Marina Resa is in your film? She is GREAT. And now, officially, the most connected actress to me who has never actually worked for me!

Ralph, if you want, I'd be happy to look over your casting notice and see if there's some way to rewrite it to get a more favorable response.

Yeah dude, she's the lead actress! How do you know her? Worked on a film with her or something?

A lot of strange coincidences, actually. She came in to audition for me last week, and from looking at her resume I already knew that she had been the lead in a feature film we just did an animation sequence for. I also discovered that on her last job, she worked with a child actor that we have cast in a number of things recently. Then, I also discovered that she had been in a short directed by a guy I had talked to about DPing my music video. And now, I see she's in your movie! It's funny how small this town can be sometimes.

Anyway, that reminds me, I need to start telling people about callbacks. It's a good thing that I'm finding people suited to SpyFest at the same time I'm casting this other thing!
