50min Live Capture into FC - Archival cuting into 4gig clips.

Okay, so I could not really find an answer for this:

I shoot every Sunday (now) a church service. I shoot direclty into Final Cut and cant figure out a good archival, (inexpensive) for the raw footage. (The only option I see fit is to burn the 22gigs between 6DVD's Not horrible. I would get 16 sunday church services per $19.99 100 DVD spindle. So the cost is $0.19 per DVD, compared to about $219.00 for a G-Drive250gig for 11 church services. Soon they will want me to Shoot Wednesday and Sunday Serviecs. So Double my order for Archival.... Cost for cost DVD is cheap BUT THE QUESTIONS IS HOW TO CUT UP A 50min CLIP?

thanks

Maybe it's time to get a Blu-Ray burner. For $1,000 you can burn each show to BluRay in its entirety and the discs are pretty cheap. Otherwise you'd have to chop the clip up manually in FCP and export via Compressor or using a burn folder depending on whether you are doing Data DVD or playable DVD.

I thought of that option, but again, option for option on cost. 1000 for the burner, and then cost of blueRay discs that hold 40gigs per disc? There must be a way to chop up a QT clip without loosing its rawness.

We want raw and we shoot HD, (tape is dead. I will NEVER shoot to it again.) And I would not want to DC to SD. Second, DL is only 8gigs, My first post says 22ggis :)

NOT WHEN YOU HAVE 22gig FILE. :)

Does anyone know a program that will can cut up a raw 50min Quicktime file into whatever time increments I want? Are there no programers on this site? :)

Dude- relax there is no automatic option here. If you won't pony up for the other suggestions you'll just have to cut it up yourself in FCP. Roll this editing service into your budget for the client and you'll be fine.

I am not hopped up, So no need for me to relax. (hence the Smilies) -> :) I am not filming the church service not as a paying gig, but to help the chruch's media growth. (volunteer) This thread is like an hour long. There will be more people to view it, that might have more adequate answer. So I would like to stay on the options of cutting up. Until we (HVXuser) can find a programmer who has builty a utility or can.

I am am sure I cant be the only HVX user to needing an inexpensive archival solution.

you mentioned using dvd's for archiving. I am simply suggesting that you use DL's if you go that route. that way you can at least cut down on cutting up your raw files to multiple dvds. Blu Rays would obviously be best, but it's pricey.

yea DL will be ideal, IF the price of the DL DVDs drop in price some. But the first thing that we need is a tool to be able to get th 22gig file into 4gigs or 8gig increments, without sacrificing the raw footage. Other wise Single layer vs DL doesnt do us any good. And we are only looking at 6DVDs vs. 3DVDs, time would still be the same to burn, so no differnt in production time (I think)

Blue is a great expensive option, but like most people on this Website, dropping 1000's per year when we can find a utlitie or develop one, would save us a lot of cash.

D-loaded and backing up the Files before I use it, and based on it, looks like this might be our (HVXuser, or DVXuser) who capture long clips into Final Cut. The website states MOV. files. So lets cross our fingers.

EDIT: Just read a Maximum per split is 2100mb (2.1gigs), I haev not tried, I am still backing the 22gig file up before I try ;) Dont want nothing to happen to the orignal, and better safe than sorry :)

Anyone know the Maximum amount of space a DVD can hold. I think they are like HDD's say 200, but holds only like 186 (example)

yeah i was pretty sure that there was a maximum limit, i used it before on a large file so all i did was i spilit it ito the max file size and when it was done I just put 2 files on each dvd. Not ideal, but it works. And I have tested this ap out and I have sucessfully cut files and also put them back together with no problems. Good Luck. One thing I recommend if using this ap is to save it on a cd as well. You will need the ap to put the file back together as well.

Max for a DVD is about 4.38GB...

final cut has an option of limiting the size of capture files...

it is in the system settings below the place you set your scratch disks...just go in and type in 4.3GB and it will break up the raw files for you.

Okay, So started the Splitter, and came back, I haev about 50files on my desk, of jibber jabber, and so it did not work.

BigBoss: I know of the limit factor. I have Never noticed the file size... Alwaysd looked at the limit capture ttime and disk space useage... Will there be any latency to this?

Definitely a issues solver. I will have to run some tests before Sundays Chruch service to check.

what are the file sizes? the files aren't really jibberish, it's how the ap labels the file cuts it makes. You won't be able to open any of the cut files, you have to attached all of them back together to make the file usable again. Trust me, this ap works, i've used it for large files.

256mbs, are the file sizes. just weird nonetheless, We have that great solution above, so I am just get them to buy an externall HDD for these 2 sunday chruch services and we'll go DVD, or DLDVD from now on :)
