Behaviour of Audioclips in timeline

When I set Edius to split Video and Audio into the dedicated regions I run into the following problem:
Let´s say I drag in Clip_A: V into V1 and Audio into A1 are placed automatically.
Now if I do the same for Clip_B it drops the Audio again into A1.
But once I move these videos the Audio either overwrites itself or ripple moves.
So If I move Clip_B to Videotrack 2 somewhere over Clip_A, then I either lose the Audio for Clip A or in ripplemode lose sync on Clip_A.
In FCP the Audio in A1 would automatically jump to a free Audiotrack and doesn´t overwrite the other Audio. Can I set this up in Edius, also?

Check out the tutorials section. There is a tutorial (on ediustips.com I think) that covers how to make EDIUS behave like Premiere. One of the things it does is tell you how to setup separate video and audio tracks to behave exactly like you are asking. I would tell you how, but I don't remember :)

To seperate the video and audio tracks ala the old Adobe 6.0 do this
Open Edius
Start new project
at the bottom right it read track (default)

v track choose the number of tracks
va tracks set this to 0
t tracks the number of titles track you want
a tracks set to the number of audio tracks

This is my perfered method of editing with Edius
I started with this in Adobe 6.0 and when I moved to Edius i got this fron Anton over on the Canopus forum.

Before we can help:
1 why are you splitting the audio ?
2 how are you splitting the audio from the video?

1 I need to have split Audio to put atmos and ITVs on channel 1 and the music on channel 2 on tape.

Mule, thanks. I will try that. I will try to find a new way to edit, since Edius seems to allow different ways.

One problem I still have: When I shoot interviews I record the in-cam mic on one channel and the shotgun on the other. Other cameras are mapped the same or the other way. So when I get the footage on the desk I need to switch off one or the other. In Liquid I can see both waveforms and can easily see which one´s to switch off (I do that in the properties of the clip). In Edius I only see one waveform. Is there an option to see both?

P.S.: You can pick up any Austrian beer you like anytime ;-)

If you need dialogue to channel 1 and music to channel 2 there is no need to spit the audio.

Your music will come in from a different source and will be an an audio track.
Map that audio track to output to 2

Keep all your dialogue with the video on a va track and map both channel 1 and 2 to output to channel one.
This will guarantee that if you have dialogue on ch 1 or ch 2 on camera the audio will go out on 1.

This is the output map. Your alt+enter-> mono selection still work.
According to this map for every clip you put on an va track the audio of both ch 1 and 2 will be out put to ch1.
Every audio clip you put on a A track the audio will be output to ch2

You can check this with edius audio mixer.
Open it , look at the master when playing back clips. All audio goes nicely where you told it to go.

Perfect. That´s what I need for the final output.
These sequence settings and application settings are very powerful and I need to get used to that stuff. Thanks for the help.

Glad I could help.
BTW stay away from the so called edius looks like premiere setup. I have seen more people running in to problems with it.
That is use of audio mapping for the wrong reason.
I have helped alot of people just using edius like edius and getting their audio Ok for broadcast.

Splitting the audio to different channels is also a powerfull option. I'll post some pics later of how do do it correctly depending on output.

Happy editing :)

Yeah, I never used Premiere. Just saw it on FCP the other day and tried to emulate it, because somehow it looked workable. I think a mix of it all is best. I use Liquid also and while it has VA tracks all the way, I simply use the lowest two as A and the rest as VA or V. I will basically do the same with Edius.
