What's all this spyfest talk about?

haha, neither place... I'll just say it's been used in a ton of TV and Film... a lot of Star Trek has been filmed there.

hmm, Vasquez Rocks. I was there about a month ago. Some guy in a captain kirk outfit had put his little girl in lizard alien costume and while his wife videotaped, they acted out a scene from the show. little girl was cute. dad... wasn't.

i had planned a scene there for the feature i'm working on, but ultimately decided to change locales. reason: too many people. the place wasnt crazy crowded but if you're going to be picking up location sound, know that there is usually enough people there that you are going to be picking them up on your soundtrack.

Good thing there is NO dialogue in my film
That's funny. I think this will be my FIRST DVXUSERfest film where I actually HAVE dialogue!!! Like actual actors saying things like words (in English) and stuff!

Rezfactor, "Actual actors saying things like words...." That was hilarious!!! Made my night!

On a spyfest note:
We cast on Monday.

Glad you thought that humorous, msconce! Ultra-cool banner there, msconce--and nice hot chick! I now seem to be "casting" every day at work! My script calls for five hot girls, plus a hot lead. Since "Miss 'Stuff Magazine'" doesn't seem to be returning my e-mails, I'VE GOT TO! Hopefully, she will, since she is waaaaaay hot. But, now, as soon as I see a hot girl, I go up to her and . . .

Tonight I found some hot girl reporting for some "something" .com "TV" outlet (or maybe it was foreign television?) at an arrival line. Just e-mailed her "the pitch." Crossing fingers.

I'd have a really hard time believing you can't find hot girls to do just about anything in this town, especially since you don't also seem to care if they're talented...

Brandon, ever seen And God Spoke?

Well, maybe I'm not looking in the right places. I did a casting call a few months ago . . . OMFG! None of them were hot enough, and they were all too fat! I'm hitting on "actresses," stand-ins, extras, models, and broadcast reporters. Finding hot girls that aren't FLAKES seems to be the problem. Also, the REALLY hot girls know that I'm not financing a big enough project to be worth their time. Plus, I'm really lame about losing hot girls' phone numbers! I get 'em on little tiny pieces of paper, then I lose 'em! DOH!

Although, I haven't yet run an ad in the trades. What is the big "acting" trade these days on the West Coast? Is it Backstage West or Dramalogue? Are those even still published?

Hey Ralph,

The best sites are neither Backstage nor Dramalogue. For the last few years is has been Breakdown Services, followed by LACasting and NowCasting. All three have online tools and the quality of talent you can obtain if you know how to write the right breakdown is pretty amazing.

Now about the problem of loosing their numbers, your gonna have to work that one out yourself!

Thanks, Kev! But I thought Backstage was still in publication. I've run several casting notices in Now Casting and got ZIP! I'm even offering pay! And I think I wrote a pretty terrific description. We also did an audition from Now Casting people, and that's where all the "miscasts" showed up. Now Casting, in my experience wasn't a very good resource. I guess I'll try Breakdown. Thanks loads, Kev!

Hmm, I've had pretty good experiences with NowCasting, personally. Sure, you always get some flakes, but overall I've been just as happy with the people coming from there as from Breakdown Express.

Part of the problem might be that you say you're "hitting on" these girls. I don't know what you mean by that but if people get the idea that your "project" is just an excuse to talk to them, it's pretty easy to see why they might get flaky. I'm not saying that's the case here, I don't know, but it could be a factor. You'd probably have better luck with actual casting process than just trying to hook it up with people you happen to run into, anyway. At least then you know that they have expressed an active interest, and aren't just being polite with no intention of following through.

Random..Thing: So is anybody going to have a 'Bad' spy, or one that turns evil? Something along those lines.

For the heck of it I did a search for the synonyms to the word spy.

Secret Agent
Undercover Agent
Detective
Scout
Emissary
Mole
Discover
Search out

Good concept. I wonder how many will be like this? I also wonder how many will do comedy. i would love to see some Austin Power spies running amuck!

Yeah, I used Breakdowns and LACasting for something, and got over 1000 submissions in 5 days.
