DOF on 2/3" ccds

Just curious, I have an HVX and am now in the process of picking out a 35mm adapter [leaning toward the brevis actually], but I'm just curious what the DOF is like on a 2/3" camera...people say you still need a 35mm adapter, but then the cine altas are 2/3"...so I'm curious why a camera such as the varicam I would be told would need a 35 adapter and the cine alta doesn't if it's the same chip size...no urgent need to answer this, I'm just - like I said - curious.

Thanks,
Mark.

One of the advantages that a 2/3" camera offers is the ability to use really fast primes. Zeiss Digiprimes are available as fast as T 1.6 in many focal lengths, Cannon's new glass has a number of focal lengths that are T 1.5. I recall reading a recent article that sited a some new lens that were just introduced that are in the T 1.2 area over most common focal lengths.

While these lenses on a 2/3" camera won't achieve as shallow of DOF as 35mm and adapter combinations would, the advantages in terms of resolution and speed would seem to make a compelling argument for at least considering their use.

To answer your question, not bad. I shot my first feature on a sony d35 and the DOF actually existed. I would find it hard to believe that any of the adapters on the market today would prove adequate resolution for any of the cinealta stuff(excepting the Bluray joints), then again the pro35 is 20+ so maybe it's good enough. I can't even afford to talk about it.
