I am no longer in touch with America

Eddie used to be the absolute most brilliant stand up comedian alive. Movies like 48 hours and Trading Places are easily his best, IMO. So, I can understand why you would feel that way C.G. I didn't really have an opinion on whether or not it would do well. I just didn't think much of it at all.

I miss the old Eddie Murphy. The skinny poor kid from the ghetto. The modern-day Eddie Murphy is still funny. But the skinny kid was a genius.

Eddie in a fat suit is good like Jim Carrey climbing out of a Rhinos ass.
Ha! A friend worked on the set of Ace Venture 2 and he came over one day, after shooting, and told my roommates and I about that scene (it was filmed outside of San Antonio). We were cracking up just hearing him describe the Rhino scene. And it's even better on film.

It's such a ridiculous setup, but it works.

I think it's just a reflection of what the current movie goer is going for. I mean look at Epic Movie, it was number one for a while too. You probably aren't getting it because film means more to you than it does an average viewer. You want to use film to tell great stories and express yourself, and many people just want to be entertained. I'm not putting down your viewpoint, in fact I agree with you. I wish there were more "deeper" movies being noticed. To me, it's sad that these stupid movies are doing so well, becuase they're only going to be encouraged to make more. And each film that comes along they need to push the envelope farther at the gross-ness.

I haven't seen all of those types of films, but some of them, and to me about 70% of it is not funny at all. All they consist of are bathroom jokes that anyone can do. I find comedy in stuff that's a funny situation, or way someone said something. Not just doing some fart noise for a cheap laugh.

Hollywood knows that adults are too busy working three jobs each to even see a film, and they've been tapping into the buying power of tweens and teens and the collage age for a long time. The reason these movies are number one is becuase the main taget market of people going to see movies are that demographic. If I'm a teen and I want to see a film, I call my buddies and go. Adults need to make sure they've got nothing else going on, get a sitter for the kids, etc. and it takes more effort to go out and see a movie.

So we just have to look for the diamonds in the rough, and accept that Scary Movie 7 is going to offer us nothing new under the sun. No matter who you are though, you've got to admit that Jim Carrey dramatically exiting a rhino is at least creative...
