mystery unsolved...reward check of 50$ offered

I am having a problem exporting some quicktimes to FLV for use on my website. No matter how I export from FCP, when I create the FLV's the video does not activate and play on my website...I have thought this issue came from something in this particular FCP project as I never had it before (just started using a matrox mxo, and matrox has been known to cause bugs like this, however, I have an identical second project, and it works fine with matrox.).
Just out of curiosity, I turned some of the raw footage, bypassing FCP completely, into an FLV...still does not work.
So I then played out the footage and just re-recorded it into Imovie...from a composite signal...and still the footage will not play correctly as a flash movie (sound, no image), flv format.
It seems like the image itself has something imbedded into it that is causing FLV to not read correctly. The image looks fine..and plays fine in all other programs. But no matter what I do...and it's now been 72hours of trying every possible combination...it won't work. I've tried 4 FLV creation tools as well...and they all work with all my other footage....just this particular footage seems strange.
What information can this footage contain that causes it to be unreadable, even when simply rerecorded?
thanks and the person who figures this out and comes up with a solution, will receive a fifty dollar reward...promise...
I can't take it any more.

Have you tried exporting it to a self-contained QuickTime file? Then open that file in QuickTime and export it to an FLV from there, or use Flix from On2.com.

You can send my $50 now....

That was the very first thing I did...includng using ON2flix, doesn't work.

but I have a clue now...i just checked the little external drive that I recorded this project to. I had bought it as a backup for the shoot..it's ms-dos formated. I can't even understand why it works still on my mac..but it does. Could that be a reason the quicktimes have some strange code? can the rerecorded stuff still keep that stuff in it's memory? Is there a way I can get rid of that code? the quicktimes themselves work just fine. Or does this have nothing to do with it?

Hi Ben,
yes..but even if I export an FLV from the raw footage on the desk, bypassing FCP completely , it does not play properly. So it's not really an FCP issue. I'm thinking there is some sort of strange code written into the images somehow..the FCP footage is fine..it's the flv's that are not playing properly in Flash 8. What could that be?

"when I create the FLV's the video does not activate and play on my website..."

How are you putting them on your website?

So your FLVs once created play fine? You've tested them in a player? (VLC, Flash Player) If so, then there is nothing wrong with your exports. It sounds to me as if maybe there is an issue with how you are "putting them on your website".

When I put FLV on my website with Dreamweaver, I get an option dialog that allows me to add buttons, customize the size, etc. Have you looked into that?

There is a lot of information you are not giving to us. We need to know each exact step you are taking including what drives you are exporting to. If indeed you have a FAT32 drive, it is Mac compatible, but it only supports files up to 2 GB in size.

We need to know the size of your QT file, whether it is playing properly after export, if your FLV file is playing ok on the local drive, if you have an swf player associated with your FLV, etc etc etc. So short on info.....

Sorry, thought there was enough info.
Size...the original material is short...never more than 1mb
I have ON2flix, and the latest Sorenson. both have players. the files play in both players.
I upload directly to my FTP..I have an administration on my website...it doesn't work like dreamweaver...the problem has nothing to do with the upload. the problem is unique to a couple of files that seem to not want to play video when they are online. I had a backup of the files on a mac disk..they do not play in flv format either. so forget the 'fat' disk too. Something to do with the files themselves containing some weird data, is all that I can think of?

You need to 'author' a player for your FLV, as you can't export in FCP to an FLV and simply stick that file on a webpage, as there is an intermediate step required. There are times when the Sorenson codec may produce better results than the On2 codec, but On2 is the latest. And either one can make nice videos at reasonable data rates.

Thanks Ben..kind of understad this already...and you are right about ON2...actually i think ON2 is maybe a bit ahead of Sorenson for us Mac users, as they have come out with a product that lets you create an FLV directly from quicktime.

So...the mystery is still unsolved..but we have now found the problem, and we found a solution. For some reason a few of my FLVs were missing information the flash needed to load the video..my webmaster couldn't fix the flvs, but he rewrote the code on my administration...

Thanks everyone.

Yeah- in the future please leave the money out of it. We are happy to help as much as we can for free within this forum, that's what DVXuser is for. Then when you decide to truly hire someone for tech support or buy a book DVD you can get out the check book. Deal?

Hey guys,
Sorry...honestly the money was both a sincere offer...and also not mean't as an insult. I doubt anyone here needs the fifty bucks...it was only a way of saying..please can anyone figure out this problem. Like I said, what causes the problem is not really solved. And I would gladly send the check...truly. Books are great, but they don't always have the latest info, or software updates.

Regarding money..it's an interesting topic, like many of you here I have spent thousands of dollars on equiptment, and software. Take the Matrox MXO for example. I just spent a bunch on one, and a bunch, bunch more on long distance calls for technical support. Only to find out that half of the information I've read here was right, and some off it was a bit misleading. It's not such a great solution, and it's very, very buggy. Some time ago other Matrox software was casuing sporadic problems with flv's, I had thought this was one of them. Of course Matrox played a bit naiive on this one. But f you do a google search, you will find old threads talking about it. I will post all of this info shortly, and some other lucky guy is going to profit from all the headaches I've been through on this. Just like I am profiting greatly from other's help on this site. Anyway...sorry if anyone took my offer in the wrong way... I meant no evil!
