cluster with xserves mac pros

Hello,
I am looking for information about building a cluster with Xserves or Mac Pros. I have a client which needs to convert hdv and uncompressed SD video into mpeg-4 (h.264) clips very fast. I thought building a cluster might be a good idea. Does anybody have any experience with it? Is it even a good idea or are there other (better) options.

Thank you,

Michael

If you are looking for realtime... dunno.

If you just want to compress a lot of data quickly, compressor has builtin the ability to do clustered transcoding. I haven't used more than my MBP, MB, G5 and a couple of G4's in my testing, but it speeds up overall workflow considerably, when correctly set up.

"Very fast" is a very vauge term. What is "very fast"? Actually, technically a "cluster" is not what you want. FCP doesn't work in a Cluster setting. You want a "render farm". QMaster that comes with Compressor, as Gunleik said, is what you want to use. Time to pull out the user manual library and start doing some homework!
