Sad Realization for Moviegoers

I have proof, courtesy of my camera phone, that today's moviegoers are getting way too stupid.

Seriously, a disclaimer?! Plus, we're getting so lazy that we don't even wanna read subtitles!?

Obviously, somebody complained! Probably more than somebody! Several somebodys!

I'm gonna peace out soon, check on this thread in the morning.

Some people just don't have the mental capacity to take in written words AND moving images. It will make their neurons go bananas and their brain go kablamo.

oh i know i one to see it and people started walking out around 20 mins..... now if this were passion of the christ no prblem in that everyone was glued to there seat but when you get a japanese story with like 10 lines of english dialouge then its bad... movie

Just when I think that people have become as dumb and ignorant as they can get, something like this happens to let me know that this downward slide isn't even close to complete.

Watch a flic called Idiocracy from Mike Judge of Office Space and King of the Hill. If you think it's bad now, just wait another couple generations.

P.S. I also hate subtitles, as it draws me away from the film. Not because teh brayn asplodes...

Yes, I prefer the actors to speak English since that is the only language with which I am fluent. However, if a movie is filmed with foreign speaking actors, by all means DO NOT DUB IT!

No matter how good the English speaking actors are they use to dub these films, they will never get the intonations and performances to match what was originally intended. Therefore, the WHOLE experience is completely altered.

My brother watched OLDBOY based on my recommendation and he refused to read the subtitles. Most all of us know just how fantastic that movie is but he chose to watch the DUB version and went away from it thinking that it was just 'another one of those quirky Asian films'....

Gee, I wonder why?....

Well, for dubbing to English you are right. HOWEVER, other countries have much more experience in dubbing films, and the Germans in particular are pretty bloody good in dubbing to German. I recall two films that I [almost] preferred in German than in their original language.
So, dubbing can be done extremely well, it's just that the US doesn't (and hasn't) put much effort into the translation nor the dubbing.
I do agree that it is a different experience though, but the first thing to good dubbing is the translation, and THAT is an extremely difficult task that not many can do well.

I'm not sure that this is worth getting that worked up about. There's nothing in the advertising for the movie which says it's in Japanese and subtitled. They probably just don't want people taken by surprise.

I concur. In the grand scheme of things, there are many things which would rank much higher on the piss-o-meter. :)

I think it's sad that the movie theatre felt the need to post this sign. I guess I understand, but do agree that folks are getting stupider.
I once saw a couple leave a movie because it was in black & white. They were mad that it wasn't in color.

The English-dubbed version of "Das Boot" is almost transparent.

Well not surprising really, since:

"All of the main actors speak fluent English as well as German; when the film was dubbed into English, each actor recorded his own part. The German version is actually dubbed as well; the film itself was shot "silent", since in any case the dialogue spoken on-set would have been drowned out by background noise during filming."

well its sad becuase when peopl start walking out of the theater becuase its a guy talking another langauge it makes me mad.

I agree that in the grand scheme of things that it isn't that important... I just was pointing out that the general public seems to not care about movies anymore as a whole. They want some crash and bash whiz bang movie and get entertained for no brainpower put in.
