Pro vs. Consumer CRT Monitor?

I'm under the impression that LCD, although coming along, are not suitable for precise color or focus decisions. CRT's are the only way to get accurate representation.

So, what if you used a low priced HDTV from say Samgsung. How much different would the Picture be compared to a $3,000.00 (4.000.00 w/SDI) JVC or Sony pro monitor. I know that consumer CRT don't have a blue setting, so setting up bars may be difficult.

Besides that, I'm asking those with experience or who are engineers how much different a pro vs. a consumer monitor would affect accurate color and focus representation.

Cheers,

Charlie

Now, I can't believe everyone jumped on the LCD bandwagon with out looking at what they are jumping into.

Is this thread in the wrong catagory? Should it be in tech?

I got myself in a pinch and went out and bought a 19" Samsung LCD for a client monitor on a shoot a couple months ago. The client had no complaints...they just wanted to see what I was seeing. But, the LCD on the camera had more accurate color. And arguably, both gave me the same amount of detail for focusing. So, yeah, you get what you pay for.

If someone would come out with small form CRT pro monitor I'd really be interested.

But, for the money that you're talking about, IMHO the Panasonic 17" would be a happy medium.
