---Accidentally CAptured at 24fps vs. 29.97 What Can I do?----

Wow - I have made a dumb mistake. I have captured over 14 hours of footage at 24fps vs. 29.97 (I shot on 24PA). I just learnd that you must capture at 29.97 with the advance pulldown option checked. I look at the captured clips but I don't really "notice" anything out of the ordinary except that I understand that I don't have true 24 frame footage.

Is there anything I can do to short of re-capturing everything at the correct settings?

Please help!

Thanks a million,

Mike

Nope...gotta recapture. If the footage was captured at TRUE 24fps and not 23.98, then you will have major issues.

Also, it looks like my timcode is off - my timecode in FCP does not match the camera - would that have something to do with it?

Not really- the TC timcode in FCP relates to FCP, you'll see the camera timecode far down in the properties in the browser. Shane is correct- you must recapture. Footage captured specifically at 24fps is completely un-salvageable because critical frames are missing.

is there anyway to mark offline (trash original files) and then re-capture those clips? I am hoping to avoid going through the long monotony of selecting my clips.

any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks!

Dood- you need my DVD! :) Anyways you want to use the Easy Setups for Advanced Pulldown Removal. That will update the sequence and capture presets for you. You can use the clips in your browser to go offline and rebatch. But that means you needed to have captured take by take and labeled your reels properly. Otherwise FCP won't know where to find your footage or how to locate the pulldown.

Awesome! I just bought it! Looks very helpful. Man, it looks like I had a timecode error as well during capture (which has now been fixed) - but when I go offline the timcode does not match up ---- oh boy, any ideas?

What if some of my footage is not 24pA but 24p? I just noticed that several hours were shot on 24p rather than 24pA - if I captured 24p at 24 frames per second (vs. 29.97) will I still have a problem? Do I still need to recapture?

Am I understanding this? You shot 24PA and when you captured you failed to remove the 2:3:3:2 pulldown? If that is the case, why don't you use Cinema Tools to do a reverse telecine on the footage. I've had to do it and it works well.

Not quite... here is the deal - when I captured 24PA footage in my capture settings I chose 24fps instead of 29.97 (remove 2:3:3:2 pulldown) - I have since learned that I should have captured my 24PA footage at 29.97 - and will have to recapture the 24pA footage.

LAter I learned that I shot some of my footage at 24p NOT 24PA - and captured the same - 24fps. I am wondering - what should your settings be for straight 24p footage? Should the FPS also be 29.97 when capturing 24p? What if I captured 24p footage at 24FPS?

You help is greatly apprecaited.
