Got my FS100 3.0 Firmware today!

Thought some of you might enjoy seeing this - just in case it hadn't sunk in that this firmware upgrade was a big deal:

fs100.jpg

From just under 2 hours to just shy of 4 and a half hours worth of recording time (at 720/24 of course)

Not a moment too soon either - I have a shoot this weekend.
Everything is coming together... I got my FCP upgrade discs in the mail today too!

waaaaait... I haven't been keeping up with you FS-100 guys so now the original FS-100 will be ale to store more? it ony stores the keyframes?

that is crazy!!! wow! but you still can't see the clips as thumbnails right?

It's the much anticipated V3.0 firmware for the FS-100 -- it can perform the pulldown (redundant frame) removal while recording. Your DV Rack HD can do the same thing: if you tell it to record AVI Type 1 files, it doesn't record the redundant frames; if you record AVI Type 2, it does.

It's the equivalent of being able to record the PN modes through the DV port.

are they planning on making it able to feed the camera for reviewing deleting and so on? or will that be the FS-200?

Hey Latin,
The FS-100 can feed the camera for review, and I believe there should be a way of deliting and so on. the one thing that it doesn't give you is the thumbnail displays. the reviewing clips is done by using the controls on the FS-100 itself. I'm not super familiar with it though, but its not as visual of a process as it is from the P2 cards.

I order to manipulate the clips on the FS-100 from the HVX, it would have to have direct access to the file system on the FS-100, which it doesn't.

Therefore the only thing the FS-100 can do to preview clips is to stream them back to the HVX in what is essentially a reversal of the recording process -- the camera is taking the DVCProHD data stream and displaying it.

so how is the interface and how time consuming is it to look though clips, with four and a half hours I don't think deletion would be a concer...
also, does it/will it do all frame rates? it's been a while since I red about the FS-100

congrats to you guys with one for the extra space!

I'll have to double check the manual regarding the complexity of reviewing clips. I do know that it has folders or clips or bins (something named like that) so if you are shooting scene 1 and doing 20 takes you keep that on the same bin, then when you start filming scene 2 you can put than on a different bin. I just never really took the time to learn all that.
But yes it does all frame rates. and then some. it does time lapse, and I believe it can even be set to do some frame rates that you have to cheat with the camera in order to achieve. with the FS-100 you just set up your camera and then the FS-100 you can tell it to do 1fps, or the other rates.

are they planning on making it able to feed the camera for reviewing deleting and so on? or will that be the FS-200?
No, that's the CinePorter. CinePorter will be able to do it because it uses the same interface that the camera does; FS-100 can't because it plugs in via the firewire port.

oh, so FS100s behave just like having your camera plugged into your computer with your NLE capturing tool... kinda anyway...
Barry, sory to sk you here but do you know when you'll have the next HVX bootcamp @ Ablel Cine in Burbank? :)

Barry, Atlanta would ROCK! New Orleans would be better, though. You should have scheduled a Mardi Gras Bootcamp.
