My DVrack laptop stand

I got a baby plate ($25) pancake ($20) female to female adapter ($16)
and a medium duty stand ($130)... a $3 roll of kitchen drawer liner does
away quite nicely with the slippery surface problem, and I would cut out
a portion where your fan lies to let it breathe better on hot days

but this is not just a nifty table for my laptop when using DVrack but
also an additional stand for lights and the best way to mount a heavy
light down low while keeping it hidden behind low furniture such as a
couch, etc... 17' laptops will fit nicely on the pancake leaving a bit of
space for a mouse if you prefer external ones and even space for an
external hard drive...

also I'd recommend the $35 hoodman for sunny days or if you have a
glossy finish on your LCD like me... paper tape will work great to secure
the firewire cable to the female to female adapter and then to the camera
to make the connections more secure.

Can you add a closeup picture or two of the firewire connections on laptop and HVX and how you secured them? Thanks in advance.

The ball joint does not come loose. If you lean on the edge of the pancake it will tilt as a tripod with a boat-load of drag would, but it stops when you let go as soon as you realize. The black kitchen drawer liner does a great job at not letting anything slide off.
I'll take those close-ups as soon as I make up my mind on how to do it in the best possible way. I am thinking of screwing some sort of clamp to the edge by my firewire pin. On the camera I use paper tape to secure the cable to the tripod's arm about five inches from the tip of the wire, and that works great.
