Problems with SKP500 G2 plug-on and Rode mic

Trying to use my Sennheiser SKP500 G2 with a Rode NTG2 mic, using phantom power. Works fine using a battery in the mic, and the mic works fine using phantom from the camera, but using the plug-on with the mic (no battery) and phantom gives a whole rash of continuous static. The plug-on seems to work fine with another no-name condenser mic I have which is phantom only...
Turning off the pilot signal on the plug-on stops it but also kills any audio as well...

I can just use a battery in this setup but can't understand why this won't work. Primary reason I bought the 500 series rather than the 100 was so that it would phantom power a handheld shotgun...

Thoughts, or things to try?

Runnig a shotgun through a wireless sucks all the life out of the sound anyway. Go wired whenever you can. If not use a battery.

Really? I thought the whole idea of wireless was that it had enough bandwidth to be transparent to the signal, as long as the signal is good...this setup allows a boom op to be independant of the camera, essential when you're doing steadicam and very helpful for real run-n-gun. I've seen enough guys use the same system on drama successfully that I can't believe that wireless destroys the sound...or am I wrong? I just can't work out why the plug-on won't work with a phantom mic like it should, but now I'm interested to know how much wireless degrades a signal?

this could be problem of compatibility between the mic and the tx

i had some issues using some microphones with my lectrosonics uh 400 transmitters , while they worked perfectly with battery powered ( vp-88) they didn't work well when they supplied the phantom (allot of white noise and low output)
they do preform well with only phantom powered mics as 416/sankens or schoepses .
so check your tx with another microphone .
by the way in real life situation working wireless is get what you cant get with cable , i know quit allot of mixers ho barely running cable anymore ( as my self)
and use wierless on 90% of the shotes since time is money and the producers love it more then another 6db of s/n ratio :-)

Cheers Oleg, yep, white noise and low output, that's the symptoms.
What's got me is that it works fine on camera phantom. This and the plug-on are both 48V phantom, is there any different way of configuring phantom in the design of the manufacturer's circuitry? Obviously nothing I can do if it is, but I'll always test mics for their compatibility in the future if so.

Thanks also for your points on economics vs sound quality...a bit more searching showed me the issues with companding, especially cheap circuitry, but at the end of the day the bottom line rules regardless and if producers are happy with the results of quality wireless, then I guess that's what the standard will be.

i dont think it worth money to modify the mic or the tx so just use it with a battery power .

i think that it is the best drop a line to sennheiser check if they could make any solution .
my problem was never solved by Lectrosonics but at least i know their next design would take these issiues under concern .
