I'm currently working on a DIY dolly and need to drill a 1" x 1" hole into a pvc pipe. Does anyone know how I could go about doing this?? I don't have a big enough drill bit. Preferably an economical/free solution...

A step drill (that goes to 1" or larger) would do the job easiliy (providing the pipe is quite large in dia.).
eBay has those, I'm sure.

Harbor freight too.

Curious, what would you do w/ a 1" hole in the pipe?

draw the hole on the pvc using a pen. then with a small drill bit go arrround the edge drilling several times with a tiny space between each hole and the edge... do not connect the holes... then with a file - or hack saw blade - cut the dot to dot like line from each hole. with a larger file, clean the edges up.... coz they will be bumpy from all the half circles left. then file the edges flush with the drawn pen line.

you can cut a hole any shape and size using this method. and end up with it perfect.

Alright, thanks for all of your suggestions. I just finished making my portable dolly...I will be posting pictures soon!
