OK...

So, I am in a HUGE bind here. I have a shot that HAS to be presented on Friday and i shot it thinking i could add in an explosion and bullet ricochet's on the ground from detonationfilms.com; the problem is I've never used anything from their website before and it just looks horrible when i add it. If anybody has any experience in this and could help me out or put something together for me it would be greatly appreciated. I uploaded the clip so anybody can download it and see what I'm working with. Again, I would really really appreciate it if someone could help me out here. Thanks so much.

Go check out Stu Maschwitz's blog, there is info on these kind of effects and how to create them from scratch. Or you can be extra studious and go pick up his DV Rebel's Guide from the bookstore and/or After Effects Studio Techniques by Mark Christiansen, all these have the answers you need.

Hi there,

First off, the handheld is making it very difficult to add elements. I would stablize it a bit perhaps. And then add the elements from detonation.

When you add the explosions they have black backgrounds, so perhaps try something like screen overlay when adding them.

And The DV Rebels Guide is incredible!!! as well as the AE Studio Effects, BUY BOTH THESE BOOKS!.

I'll try to do something with it when I get home. I have Effects Lab, and might be able to do something with that.

Thank you guys... yeah when trying to add the elements i was keying out the black color and it just looked HORRIBLE... it basically just turned into a muddly poof from a 1950's movie. It lost all defition and became blurry. Kyle if you can do anything with it that would be great. My email is brock2621@alltel.net. Thank you guys for your input.

I leave here in an hour. When I get home, I'll see what I can do. I haven't been able to look at the footage yet.

Ok, thanks Kyle... let me know if you think you can do anything with it :) I appreciate the help either way.

Ok, I worked on it. I couldn't stabilize the shot , so I rotoscoped it. I wound up using an explosion from detonation films. After I added it, I thought it looked fake without debris. So I went back to detonation films and tried to download a dirt explosion and for whatever reason, my connection speed to that site bottomed out... must have been on their end. Another note, detonation stuff is interlaced. I deinterlaced, but when I did the keying, it interlaced again and I couldn't fix it. Odd problem. I was able to pull a decent key on the shot I used. The background was sky, so a luma was out of the question. Long story short: I worked on it, but its not finished. I can give you what I have, or continue working on it when I get some free time. Can you PM me to let me know?

It is not that bad, the interlacing problem is not noticeable (i know it is highly compressed).
Good work
