Interior of a closed dance club

Hi, i'm shooting a short about a young gang. There is this scene we have already shot into this dance club, that is set when the club is closed. What do you think about the lighting? We have to shoot other scenes in this place; what do you think we can improve?

Yes, i'm aware of the red walls, but that's what we got for free in the area.

The lighting looks realy really flat and unimpressive, and it doesn't look like a dance club at all - its too bright and evenly lit. I'd expect a dance club to be dark with lots of flashing lights. This looks more like a cafe. You're right about the red walls, but i guess there's nothing much you can do about that...

You need more directional units. Way less ambient light. I was a grip at a night club shoot once - there were 5-6 of us with individual 150w spot units waving them all around the dance floor from high above.

Yes is flat, but the scene is set when the club is closed, so when the owner is cleaning the floors.... i's an entirely diffrent mood.

These were shot using available light in a bar between sound check and the bar opening. The house lights are on above the bars down either side of the room but the dance floor is in darkness. The stage lights are just 4 floods from each side. It was what the club uses for stage equipment set up.
These were shot with the HVX200 at 720 24pn, Cine-V setting with no alterations. Shutter at 1/24. My first club shoot with the camera. Only 1 guitar player fell on the camera. (it's fine) The bar is called The Red Room and it was redder than the pictures of the bar that started this thread. The stage itself was mostly black drape with red wood highlights. The lighting guy gave the black drapes behind the stage a green wash during the performance. I actually prefer the sound check footage I shot because it is mostly lit by those white side lights. You might want some contrast/darkness like this bar rather than the flatly lit shots you have.

Wello, sure those are more interesting. In fact, prior to entering the club i was thinking of something similar. However the owner has proved to be an ass, and
-because he allow us to shoot for free- he was bored and a bit angry. He even opened the club later than what we asked. We tried to ask about the lighting but nothing.
The week after, we have to shoot the remaining sequences. The club is closed. The owner did'nt answer at our phone calls, so we wasted a night shooting nothing (outside was snowing heavy, could'nt shoot other sequences).
We have to shoot some sequences that happend the same day, so lighting will be the same; and other sequences that are set on a diffrent day, so i might be try something diffrent.
