Cinevate 2 Stage Mattebox

Hi DC,

is the mattebox height adjustable? I does not look like. Most cameras need different height, because most don´t meet the industry standard, and most adapters with rod support too...

And it looks like that the light coming towards the lens is not very well reduced , see the reflection on the lens !!!

Hmmm...

Marc, I had a soft box light firing directly into the mattebox to light the face up...you wouldn't be shooting like that :-)

marc.m,

What is the industry standard height from the rails for a mattebox?

e

Erik,

I think the standard is 85mm from 15mm rods center to lens center.
And the mattebox meets this standard, but most small video cameras don´t.
"...and locks the mattebox at the industry standard 85mm." as DC quoted.

Guskerthecat,

sometimes you need to block light coming from the side or even from the front. That is the reason, why I use a mattebox, and the ability to hold my filters. And your mattebox looks very thin from the side, seems that much light can get to the lens.

Only my opinion...

Hey I remember seeing an ad banner on here before advertising a matte box made of cloth/canvas/velcro or something. Anyone out there know the name of the company? Their website?

Thanks

Hey, Dennis, when you find the 8th day of the week could you post some more pics of your matte box? It'd be good to see a few angles and be able to view it to scale with something else in the shot like a person or the camera. And something a little further back would be better too (for scale) as shooting close with a wider angle can distort the size. Just a few snaps aughta' do it. I'd love to see more of it.

Also, Overland, I would be using it with the Brevis and Nikon lenses. Wouldn't something rails mounted be more suitable? How would I go about attaching the lens to the Cavision 5x5 MB5086H2 I mentioned? Or would it just not work? Thanks.

Hey DC, that Cinevate matte box looks pretty good, and the price is also great, but don't you think it would be better to wait for the Redrockmicro one since it has a fold out hinge, as well as stackable stages?
just my opinion.

I was speaking to Tim at Studio4 yesterday and he mentioned that beginning in January '08, he will sell indiMATTE. I don't have any of his products yet, but am planning to buy indiRAILSpro and indiFOCUSpro in the new year, and I'm willing to bet that his indiMATTE will be another solid yet cost effective product.

It has been almost a year since anyone posted to this sticky - do any of you have the Redrock matte box yet? I know it was supposed to ship around now. Please review if you get a chance... The specs that Brian released in November looked pretty great.

Will,

What I hear is that is almost ready to ship the first batch the next bath will probably take a while, but the thing is supposed to be competing with the Arri MB20 which I believe its around $4000 or so.

So for around $500, you get something that is at the level of 4k, yeah I like that.

Some of the other matte boxes are around the same price, buy they are competing with $1500 matte boxes. So you do the math. My calculator says wait if you can. :D

I am sorry but I can't find any up to date info on the release, so if anyone has anything I missed when I was searching please post it for us.

Thanks!

BTW I know about this thread on their Forum but the last we've heard there was back in April and then back in July 6th 2007 via e-mail to those of us with reservations, so I suspect there might be something a bit more recent on the developments?

If its not on their site then there is probably no update. I was one of the 50 or so pre-orders, so I am waiting on their word as to when it will be ready.

I was under the impression that they were going to release about 50 or 100 units first and then release the rest during NAB? Can't remember where I got that idea, but that's what I thought. ???

I'm waiting for their Remote Follow Focus and can't wait. The last prototype I saw was amazing and I know their new unit will be even better. Man I can't wait!!!!
