How do you promote on YouTube? Or MySpace?

I read somewhere that the new powerful tool to network is to add people with an industry profile to yours in MySpace.

What the heck does that mean? How do you scout entertaiment people that are real and not wannabe?

I'm a total idiot when it comes to those sites, I barely grasp the concept. I uploaded my trailer in both places (well, somebody else did it for me), now what? What do I need to do?

Here is a new job: the E-PR. A person that helps elevate your profile in the internet for dum-dums like me.

Any takers? Somebody?

PS. If someone has a stunning trailer (no kidding) and nobody sees it...does the movie really exist? Ha!

i've moved to LiveVideo.com as it is being developed by the creators of MySpace (before they sold it). it is very similar to YouTube but with slightly better video quality, more features and more of an emphasis on community (which is what made myspace so successful).

not to mention, i've had more visitors, views and hits in the last week than i had in three months on youtube.

it's worth a look. imo, it's likely going to be as big as youtube. can't hurt to establish a presence there from the beginning.

We've had some solid response from one of our myspace profiles. I keep in touch with quite a few filmmakers, and another hi-light is maintaining cast/crew contacts. They all have accounts as well. But overall the networking has been rewarding. We found our FX guy and a few other post posistions through myspace as well. That's my take anyway, it's different for everyone I guess.

Good luck.

"Pimpin' ain't easy" but with these sites it makes it a little easier. You just have to take the time to chat with peeps and join groups and such. You can't just sign up, post a video and expect everyone to come running. There are a ton of these types of site, just read the conditions so you are not signing all your rights away to them like currentTV does. If you are expecting to submit to big film fests also check the rules on posting your movie on the web, some fests don't want previously publically viewed submissions.
