Shooting Apollo 11 On The Moon

Why develop a special camera for shooting in a warehouse in the California Desert?

But yeah, I am a huge NASA geek and eat all this stuff up. Thanks for posting.

Mark, they didn't shoot in a warehouse in the California Desert. That's just silly. Sheesh.

It was the Nevada Desert. That's what those big buildings are at Area 51 -- sound stages!

Lots of innuendo flying around here. Difficult to tell what people believe when comments are cloaked in comedy. :)

Barry - What are your real thoughts on the moon landing broadcast? Is the landing fact or fiction?

OK, I'm just going to leave a blanket statement and let it go at that . . .

Anyone who thinks the moon landings were faked has not only seen too much TV, but also insults tens of thousands of hard-working people who accomplished a miraculous work of human genius.

My comment was entirely tongue in cheek, playing off of Mark's. We have a no-politics rule here, so I'm certainly not going to engage in a thread where we debate whether or not there was some massive conspiracy/coverup perpetrated by the US government etc... :)

Exactly. Besides, we all know the largest government coverup in history has to do with KFC's blend of secret herbs and spices.

Isn't it a little creepy that they had to change their name to KFC because what they sell cannot really be classified as chicken?

All right, dude, but when you're lying on the table with probes in every oriface and a chain-smoking man standing over you, I want you to think back to this moment and remember: "I told you so!"

But yeah, even though I am not a fan of human space flight, I still get a flutter in my stomach when I see the moon landings, ever since I was a kid.

Timur told me they took an HVX on a recent shuttle mission, or Russian flight to the space station, because off the P2 cards...is that true?

I would agree on the human space flight if it was only about science. But it's not. It's also about the human spirit, and sending probes and robots isn't especially uplifting (no pun intended).

i thought the film couldnt survive the huge space radiation on the moon, so i got with it being shot in a studio... :P

Space exploration is in our nature. We always want to see what is over the next hill.

Besides, what would we do without tang, velcroe, and about 40 thousand other things were it not for space exploration? :)

Where are the chickens?

Where are the chickens?

But I read in the book "Fast Food Nation" that KFC is the larger buyer of chicken (just above McDonalds) in the United States! If that is the case, where are all those chickens going???

I actually heard that "chicken" wasn't the taboo word here, it was Kentucky. The state of Kentucky was trying to get people to pay to use the word in a business or product name, so that's why they changed to KFC.

Yeah Tang, a real boon to civilization. :)

Anyway, my point was not to start an argument about human/vs non-human space flight - though I actually find robotic exploration MUCH MORE uplifting because I never would have seen the surface of Titan, or any of the thousands of ground breaking images the Hubble put out, or witnessed the proving of frame-dragging. These things to me are FAR MORE exciting than some schmoe hitting a golf ball around the moon. And all robotic missions.

But, what I wanted to say was that EVEN THOUGH I find that stuff more exciting, I UNDERSTAND the power putting people on the moon can have and the Apollo stuff gets EVEN ME excited.

Now, who's up for a nice healthy mac vs PC debate?
