Homemade 35mm Adapters are Lame.

hahaha, I bet I'll get beat up by all the "diy" people, but its true. I hate the homemade 35mm adapters. They make everything soft, yeah, they look sweet when the video is the size of a postage stamp, but blown up, they look like they were shot with a pinhole camera...

That was my rant...

ps. if you can show me FULL res. screen grab of a DVX or HVX with a home made 35mm adapter that looks good, and crisp, you have my respect. haha, not like that matters anyway.

anything that makes a dumpy soft picture in full res. that includes low-end brought adapters. I guess I'm just sick of seeing all these adapters on this site. haha.

I can't see how you could produce a good image with any of those low-end adapters... I have used the mini35 before with cooke primes, and that adapter was still difficult to work with (focus)

Not everyone can afford to plunk down fat cash for a mid to high-end, professionally engineered adapter. The picture may be a bit soft but it's the best many folks can do.

Not that sharp since I used my built in LCD monitor and no follow focus, but it's pretty close to the mini35, which I've also used.

what camera and what adapter was used for this. it was awesome and funny. i love the DOF look.

I could be wrong, but I believe Policar used either the cinemek G35 Beta, or... the Go35Pro. My belief is it's the Go35Pro. If it is, I can't wait for mine to arrive (I have one on order).

Poli? Care to chime in?

This is not a limitation of the adapter, but a limitation of the operator. P+S's Mini35 is pro-made, internal flip, and paired with something like Cooke primes? That tells me you don't know your medium well enough to make blanket statements such as the topic of this thread.

If you haven't seen great M2, SGpro Rev 2, Brevis, and Mini35 footage it's simply because you haven't looked. I've been around professional DP's probably twice your age, all coming from top-notch film productions, that will swear by the Mini35 on a digital production.

You just need more practice. Don't hate the equipment.

Go35Pro can be found at http://go-35.com/

So that was the beta G35, huh? Wow, I really thought it was the go35pro. They seem to have very similar results (which has me freakin' excited).
They do. i have one. the Go35 is just as sharp, but less Vingetting.

now im getting more confused. last sat i asked a question on DOF. someone pointed me to the letus35mm. i thought i was all set. for 500 bucks i can get a simulated good DOF. but now, im noticing that there are tons of 35mm adapters i can get for my DVX. for about 500-600 bucks whats the BEST one. as per opinions. thanks

do they have a version that flips the image manually without any changes to my camera i have a dvx 100b
