FCP: DVCPRO HD to DV NTSC need help!!!

We just finished editing our music video that we shot with an HVX200 in 720P. We edited it in a DVCPRO HD 720P 24p time line. Now we're trying to back this project up to Mini-DV tape. We opened a new sequence and changed the settings on it to DV NTSC 720x480. We nested our HD sequence into the DV sequence, rendered it, turned on "ALL FRAMES" in video playback and set playback to firewire. When it plays back the audio comes through just fine, but the video will only show one frame and then just "lock up" on that frame while the audio keeps playing. When we press stop, it stops on the the last frame, but it's still locked up. Where do we go from here? Also, if we want to just do a quick no-frills DVD burn of this video, is it humanly possible to just export a DVCPRO HD quicktime of this video to the desktop and just drop that into one of those goofy i-DVD projects or is there a better way? Any help any of you can give us would be vastly appreciated. THanks.

The second question is easiest to answer, so I'll do that first. Basically just use Compressor or if you just want it really quick and dirty, Export Using Quicktime Conversion (and then set to MPEG-2). Then you can get the mpeg-2 files for DVD authoring. The easiest no-frills DVD burn though is to just connect to your system a DVD recorder (set top unit) and use that. Most of those have DV In, or well maybe not most but many do.

As for your output. You're using the HVX for the back up to mini-DV? I haven't use the HVX myself for that, so all I can say on that is get Barry Green's book on the HVX. Though the one thing I see from you description is the whole nesting thing. Personally I'd copy and paste all the raw bits and pieces from the HD timeline to a SD timeline and then try it. Or, export, using quicktime conversion, and export a self contained quicktime at SD levels. Then re-import that and output using that. Just a couple of different things to try. Good luck.

cheers.

output to D5 or HDCAM

output to D5 or HDCAM

It might be best to output to HDCAM or D5. If you take HD footage and downgrade it to DV, it defeats the possible of shooting HD. I assume you shot using the P2 cards, and not the HDV deck. 1280x720 is a much better resolution than 720x480, I would not do that. Back up on a hard drive or rent a deck and output to the highest grace with a D5.

We figured it all out. Gypsy, we actually backed it up to a firewire harddrive, a D-5 Master, a DVD project, and a downconverted Mini-DV tape just as an added format. We finally just exported a DVCPROHD quicktime movie of the final video to the desktop, and opened a brand new DV 48khz 24p timeline, and just dropped the DVCPROHD file in it, added pulldown, and played it out. Somewhat confusing, but I thank all of you for the quick responses. I love the HVX200 a lot. That camera friggin rocks, I cannot go back to tape again. And it's getting harder for me to justify shooting film anymore. Come to think of it, it's getting harder to find clients who want to shoot film anymore. Thanks all!
