Second Display Monitor Question

I've got a laptop that I'm using with Vegas 7. It seems that for an external monitor, the only setting is 768 (but my monitor is 720).

Also, my laptop has the following outputs: dvi (and also VGA and S-Video, which are not HD compatible). However, my monitor only supports the following (no dvi): Component, HDMI.

Any suggestions?

It has a PC mode, as well as a TV mode. I have found a DVI to HDMI cable, so I will try that. Any other thoughts?
